What types of used Ford Focus cars are there?

The Ford Focus is a brilliant example of a car that’s perfect for everyday use but that doesn’t feel overly sensible. It’s got all the car tech a driver could want – and you can even spice it up a bit with a powerful Focus ST-Line edition – but it’s still functional enough for the daily commute.   

You can choose either a manual or automatic gearbox on a five-door, five-seater hatchback that packs around 300 litres in the boot, depending on the model.

Ford has a long list of trim levels and variants available, but many buyers tend to go for something a bit higher on the list.

Ford Focus history 

There have been four versions of the Ford Focus since it launched in 1998, each getting substantial improvements and refinements. 

> Third-generation Ford Focus (2010) - Modern styling and range of efficient engines, including 1.0-litre EcoBoost engines 

> Facelifted Ford Focus (2014) - Redesigned front end and changes to the trim level structure 

> Fourth-generation Ford Focus (2018) - Modern-looking replacement with higher-quality materials and better infotainment system 

> Facelifted Ford Focus (2022) - New front end and some minor revisions to standard equipment 

Ford Focus body styles 

The Focus is one of the few family hatchbacks to also be offered in estate format. In other markets, there are saloon versions, but not in the UK.

> Ford Focus Estate - Comparably small estate car with a larger boot that’s still easy to drive around town 

> Ford Focus Active - Active is a trim level available on hatchback and estate models, but they also ride slightly higher for more ground clearance

How much does the Ford Focus cost to run?

All versions of the used Ford Focus are efficient, but the 1.0-litre petrols and other diesel engines offer the cheapest running costs. Newer engines even have mild hybrid assistance to reduce emissions further. 

Other costs, such as maintenance, insurance and car tax, are all fairly low for the Focus compared with other hatchbacks. 

Who is the Ford Focus suitable for?

There are so many options in the Focus range that it’ll be impossible not to find one that suits you.

The Focus Active is a great SUV choice, while the Titanium is comfortable and practical. The ST-Line is perfect if you want extra power. 

A used Ford Focus is a great car for anyone after something comfortable to drive, reliable, spacious, and equipped with the latest tech.
