What is the Ford Focus Zetec?

Zetec is a trim level that's been around for decades on a wide selection of Ford models, and it’s known to be a great option for those after an affordable, well-equipped motor.

There are used Ford Focus Zetec models spanning multiple generations, from the latest facelifted fourth-generation models back to the first version, which came about in the late 1990s.

You can pick from used Focus Zetec cars with a range of engines, including Ford’s popular EcoBoost petrol units.

What are the Ford Focus Zetec specs?

The most popular engine by far is Ford’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol. With the Zetec model, you get a choice of 100hp or 125hp, but there are no 155hp versions as you’d get in higher trim levels.

You can also pick from used Focus Zetec models with an extremely efficient 1.5-litre diesel engine – there are 95hp and 120hp variants available.

There are some other engine options if you’re considering older models, and there’s a good selection of manual and automatic.

Given that there have been four generations of Ford Focus Zetec, kit levels vary widely, so it’s worth checking each individual listing.

As a rule of thumb, some of the latest second-hand Ford Focus Zetec cars come with cruise control, front fog lights that illuminate individually to light up the lower section of the road when you’re cornering, and even a heated windscreen to make defrosting less of a chore.

Newer models also come with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system that runs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Where the Focus Zetec sits in the Ford range

Zetec is a mid-level trim option that sits one step above the entry-level Trend, but it’s a noticeable step up.

From there, there are three routes to pick from – premium-feeling Titanium and Titanium X, sporty-looking ST-Line and ST-Line X, and the crossover-inspired Active and Active X.

There are also top-notch Vignale models, which come loaded with kit you’d expect to find on far more expensive cars.
