What is the Ford Focus Active?

Active variants of the Ford Focus have a slightly higher ride height and more rugged styling inspired by off-roaders. Because a used Focus Active is barely any bigger than a regular Focus, it can be far cheaper to run than a heavier, less aerodynamic crossover.

Despite being a trim level that was introduced with the most recent Focus in 2018, you can find plenty of Ford Focus Active cars for sale because it’s a popular variant. Take your pick from earlier models or go for a smart-looking facelifted version, built from 2022.

A used Ford Focus Active is a high-spec model, so it comes with all the equipment you’d expect in any other well-equipped version of this popular hatchback.

What are the Ford Focus Active specs?

The usual array of Ford engines are available when it comes to buying a Ford Focus Active for sale, including the brand’s popular 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.

There are 125hp and 155hp variants of this excellent engine, and newer models get mild hybrid technology to keep emissions down and boost fuel efficiency.

There are also 150hp 1.5-litre petrol engines and a 120hp 1.5-litre diesel, but if you want the more powerful 150hp 2.0-litre diesel, you’ll need to consider a higher Active X model.

Used Ford Focus Active features and equipment

Even the oldest Ford Focus Active for sale comes with large alloy wheels, tinted windows, keyless start, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, cruise control and a heated windscreen.

Newer models come with more car tech, such as LED headlights and keyless entry as well as keyless start.

Both come with touchscreen infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but newer cars get a much bigger 13.2-inch touchscreen compared with the eight-inch unit in earlier cars.

Where the Focus Active sits in the Ford range

The Ford Focus range kicks off with entry-level Style models and slightly better-equipped Zetec versions, which are great value for money.

From there, there are three routes to take, including the rugged-looking Active trim. There are also Active X and Active Vignale versions, and for a period, Ford added ‘Edition’ to the end of the name, for example Ford Focus Active Edition.

There are also Titanium (Edition), Titanium X (Edition) and Titanium Vignale cars, which are very popular, and sporty-looking ST-Line (Edition), ST-Line X (Edition) and ST-Line Vignale. At the top of the range are powerful Focus ST hot hatches.
