Want to take those long family trips away and need something that can store not only people but cargo too? Take a look at some of the best value SUVs.

An SUV is a great choice for those family road trips or for people looking to make a statement and dominate the roads.

There are some affordable options on the used market too, with a wide range for you to take a look through on our site.

Best value SUV UK

  • Peugeot 2008

  • Ford EcoSport

  • Vauxhall Mokka X

  • Dacia Duster

  • SsangYong Korando

  • Vauxhall Crossland X

  • Renault Kadjar

  • Nissan Qashqai

  • Ford Kuga

  • Honda CR-V

Peugeot 2008

Starting the list off strong and well under £10k is the Peugeot 2008.

The design is reminiscent of the Peugeot 208 hatchback, and with its long headlights and roof rack, this SUV stands out on the road.

It gives you additional luggage space, support in all areas and is the cheapest SUV on our list.

Honestly, it's an absolute bargain for anyone looking for a reliable, fashionable and impressive SUV.

Our Motoring Editor Sam Sheehan says: "If it’s a stylish interior that you’re after, you’ll find the 208 punches well above its weight.

"In fact, some even put it in the same illustrious company as cars like the new Mini and the Audi A1."

Ford EcoSport

Another impressive addition to our best value SUV list that's under the £10k mark is the Ford EcoSport.

An SUV that's great value for money, the EcoSport is similar in style to the Ford Edge and Kuga models, as well as the familiar favourite: the Ford Fiesta.

The EcoSport sits in the small SUV category and is the perfect compact SUV for your budget – the 1.5-litre engine produces 112hp and you can enjoy even intense drives with ease and comfort thanks to grip tires and heated seating.

Sam says: "The EcoSport’s grippy tyres allow you to safely channel your inner Lewis Hamilton (sort of) thanks to it cornering surprisingly well at speed – but there’s a fair amount of lean due to its height, which is standard behaviour for all SUVs.

Light steering and controls make for a good town and city car, and its petrol and diesel engines provide solid performance and refinement when you’re on the motorway."

Vauxhall Mokka X

Another SUV that sits below the £10k mark, the Vauxhall Mokka – or Mokka X as it was renamed – is a great addition to any family looking to upsize their vehicle without upsizing their budget.

Vauxhall’s answer to the Renault Captur, the Vauxhall Mokka X is a budget-friendly SUV. It boasts a 1.4-litre engine maxing up to 140hp with features such as cruise control and park pilot for a better experience from start to finish.

Our motoring journalist Ben Welham says: "Thanks to its turbo, you get punchy performance in all six gears, which makes overtaking on the motorway a breeze, especially if you forget you’re driving a manual car with no kickdown that can get bogged down in gear, which is an easy mistake to make in 2024."

Dacia Duster

Again, staying under the £10k mark, we have the budget-friendly Dacia Duster.

With the Duster, you could get an SUV that comes equipped with a stop-start system, as well as roof rails for storing any extra luggage for your travels.

This 1.5-litre diesel front-wheel-drive model offers up to 109hp – which makes this car an absolute bargain for the price.

Think the Land Rover Defender, but within your budget.

Sam says: "When you hold this Dacia's leather-effect steering wheel, you instantly notice the array of physical buttons exactly where you want them to be. In fact, the whole car is very tactile, which is thanks in part to some cost-cutting, but we think it works well.

"Once you’re settled in your seating position, it’s really easy to look out of all the car’s windows, and the chunky door mirrors make it easy to see what’s coming up alongside you."

SsangYong Korando

Replicating the style of Jeep, the SsangYong Korando has a punch of power with its 2.2-litre engine, boasting 176hp.

Its slightly heavy steering makes it the perfect SUV for those who love towing their caravans up and down the country.

Sam says: "With the rear seats up, the boot space in the Korando is virtually class-leading. No worries about having to put some of the shopping on the back seat or luggage in the cabin."

Vauxhall Crossland X

If you're looking for an SUV that truly gives you value for money, look no further than the Vauxhall Crossland X.

This premium small SUV might look compact from the outside, but it provides plenty of room for all the family in its spacious cabin.

The Vauxhall Crossland X SUV gives you the lively drive of an SUV with the underpinnings of the Peugeot 2008 – perfect for the adventurous family.

Sam says: "The Vauxhall Crossland X is a small SUV that offers excellent interior space for all the family, as well as being cheap to run, economical and well-built."

Renault Kadjar

The Renault Kadjar is the next budget-friendly SUV to make the list. Offering many of the qualities of the Nissan Qashqai, the Kadjar comes at a slightly cheaper price point.

Using the best of the partnership between Renault and Nissan, the Kadjar comes with edgier curves in a range of colour options, bringing plenty of personality to SUV driving.

Sam says: "The Renault Kadjar made quite a splash in the medium-sized SUV market in the face of fierce competition.

"It exists alongside the subcompact Captur and the larger Koleos, and thanks to its partnership with Nissan, it also shares much of its underpinnings with the ever-popular Qashqai."

Nissan Qashqai

The Nissan Qashqai is a luxury SUV that's suitable for large families and those who need plenty of luggage space.

The large body dominates the roads without being overwhelming, following a similar design to the Kia Sportage.

With features including lane assist and an electric parking brake, the Nissan Qashqai strikes the perfect balance between imposing SUV looks and efficient driving, making it deserving of a place in our best value SUVs top 10.

Sam says: "If you know cars, and even if you don’t, Nissans are some of the most dependable cars on our roads.

"Thanks to solid engineering and stellar build quality, you’d be hard-pressed to do better."

Ford Kuga

A grey Ford Kuga ST-Line model

The rugged-looking Ford Kuga is a powerhouse that competes in the league of the Volkswagen Tiguan and adventurous SUVs.

The Kuga is an excellent budget-friendly SUV for anyone looking to save money without compromising performance.

Boasting much-needed features including dual climate control, Apple CarPlay and sat-nav, you're sure to enjoy getting behind the wheel.

Sam says: "While the modern-day Kuga is more adept at negotiating heavy traffic than heavy mud, crucially, it still has the upright driving position and semi-muscular styling that supermarket shoppers and school-run drivers crave. Plus, it makes for an excellent all-round family car."

Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is the final SUV in the lineup and its reliable nature makes it a great choice.

Whether you're buying your first SUV or you're an established SUV owner looking to level up, its sporty performance and great visibility make it a perfect option for any SUV lover.

With a 1.6-litre engine offering 160hp, alongside amazing features such as auto park and dual climate, this car packs a punch without compromising on comfort.

Sam says: "Where it really comes into its own is on faster, straighter roads where wind and road noise hardly intrude at all and it cruises along beautifully.

"There’s also the choice of front- or all-wheel drive, but you’ll have to decide if the worse fuel economy makes the latter a good choice."
