ID.3
Use our Help Me Choose tool to go from 1000s of cars to just a handful of recommendations — and cinch your search.
Start nowThe ID.3 is a huge step forward for Volkswagen because it is the brand’s first ground-up all-electric vehicle that aims to replace the Golf in due course.
It also signified the first vehicle in the brand’s ID range, which also includes the ID.4, ID.5, ID.7 and ID. Buzz minivan.
If you’ve never seen an ID.3 before, it's pretty much the same size as the VW Golf but with a more futuristic design and sharper angles.
Unlike many of its rivals, however, the ID.3 is available in a few different trim levels and comes with a choice of different battery options. These trims include the Essential Pro, Match Pro, Pro, Essential Pro S, Match Pro S and Pro S.
Inside, the ID.3 is as quirky-looking as its exterior thanks to sharp styling, bright, optional colours and two large displays.
Options on offer across the range include a rear-view camera, panoramic sunroof, upgraded sound system, climate control, front and rear parking sensors, heated front seats, and much more.
Each ID.3 model comes as standard with two displays – a central 10-inch touchscreen and a 5.3-inch digital drivers’ display that sits directly in front of the driver, replacing traditional dials.
The central display works smoothly and is easy to use, offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity too.
Rear-seat room in the ID.3 is good, and since this is a family car, you’d certainly hope so. Not only does it offer great storage spaces but it also has more legroom and headroom than most of its main competitors.
The boot has a capacity of 385 litres, which is more than a Golf, and this grows to 1,267 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
Being an electric car and from one of the most dependable car brands on the planet, a used Volkswagen ID.3 should warrant no concerns.
This is because its electric motors have fewer moving parts than a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) and therefore should be more reliable and hard-wearing.
The ID.3 is also a safe car, packed with the VW's latest and greatest safety features to help it achieve its outstanding five stars following its most recent Euro NCAP safety test in 2020.
Being all-electric, the ID.3 is very easy to drive and very quiet too. There are three different battery options on offer, starting with the ‘Pure Performance’ that produces 150hp and a claimed range of 220 miles.
There’s also the larger ‘Pro’ and ‘Pro Performance’ 58kWh batteries that offer 145hp and 204hp respectively. VW claims these will return a maximum of 263 miles.
Sitting at the top of the range is the large 77kWh ‘Pro S’ battery, which produces the same horsepower as the Pro Performance but offers more range at 366 miles on a single charge.
All of these battery options offer very impressive range, and as for charging, the ID.3 is swift too. The quickest way to juice-up is to use a DC rapid charger that can return up to 80% in around 30 minutes. Home wall charging and standard chargers will take longer than this.
A used VW ID.3 is best suited to anyone looking to buy an electric car – it's as simple as that. If you're after something that's got the range, comfort and looks then there's very little else you should consider.
The ID.3’s main rivals are the Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe, Tesla Model 3, Kia e-Niro and Hyundai Kona Electric.
The ID.3 has put Volkswagen on the electric vehicle map.
As a flagship electric model, the ID.3 showcases VW's commitment to sustainable mobility, offering an impressive range of up to 343 miles and innovative features, and demonstrates the brand's transition towards a more electrified future.
Driving the ID.3 brings environmental benefits with zero tailpipe emissions, reducing air pollution and mitigating climate impact.
As an electric vehicle, the ID.3 promotes sustainability, contributing to cleaner air and a lower overall carbon footprint compared to traditional combustion engine cars.
The Volkswagen ID.3 offers versatile charging options. With a standard home outlet, it charges overnight.
A home wallbox provides faster charging, and public DC fast chargers offer rapid top-ups, reaching 80% charge in around 30 minutes.
These options provide flexibility for ID.3 owners based on their charging needs and infrastructure availability.
Choosing the Volkswagen ID.3 offers advantages such as zero emissions, lower maintenance costs and a compact size ideal for urban driving.
Its electric drivetrain provides a smooth and silent ride, while the spacious interior and innovative features make it a practical and sustainable choice for daily commuting.
The ID.3 sits on VW's innovative MEB platform, advanced driver-assistance systems and an intuitive infotainment system.
Features like over-the-air updates and a digital cockpit showcase how far VW is ahead of some rivals.
