History of Jaguar

Jaguar Cars, as we know it today, was born in 1945 and made sports cars for a long time but changed its strategy when it was taken over – first by Ford in 2008 and then TATA Motors – to help save it from difficult times. 

Up until recently, Jaguar made a wide range of cars, but has now decided to take a break and gear up for an all-electric future from 2026, as shown by its Type 00 concept car unveiled on 2 December 2024.

They’re also some of the safest on the road – most Jaguar models have been awarded a five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP.  

This is due in part to the wide range of safety features that come standard on all models, including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.

For a long time, there was a stereotype of a ‘gentleman of a certain age’ who’d drive a ‘Jag’ but that’s long gone with a more impressive range of vehicles – all of which are fun to drive. 

Reliability is strong too, with backup from TATA Motors. When this acquisition took place, it boosted the brand’s appeal and dependability through better build quality and stronger engines.  

This led to slightly cheaper running costs, but as a rule of thumb, Jaguars aren’t the cheapest to run.  

Insurance costs are relatively high and fuel consumption can also be high on some models, but choose an electric model and these should work out lower.
