BYD made its splash in the UK in 2023, and since then has gone onto become one of the most popular and fastest-growing car brands the world has ever seen, selling more than 4.2 million cars globally in 2024 alone. 

With electric cars becoming more mainstream, there’s only room for companies like BYD to grow and expand even more in the coming years – especially on the used car market. 

History of BYD

It’s very rare for ‘unheard of’ brands like BYD to make it big in Europe, but it hasn’t taken them long at all to establish themselves. 

BYD itself has been active in China since 2003, and only recently entered Europe in 2020. 

In that time, it’s developed impressive battery technology and a range of different models that are proving popular in the UK especially. 

This is thanks to their lower prices, great build quality and clever tech. 

Standout BYD features

It's nearly impossible to talk about used BYD cars and not mention some of the incredible tech found inside.  

The standout feature has to be the rotating screen in most of its models. This means at the press of a button, the screen can change between portrait and landscape mode, depending on what you’d prefer. Is it necessary? Absolutely not. Do we appreciate the engineering behind it? Absolutely. 

As well as this, you get all the standard features you’d expect to find in a modern car. This includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated seats, a sunroof, a brilliant sound system and loads of driver aids.

Plus, with the use of BYD’s ‘Blade’ battery technology, you will have up to 354 miles of range in its electric cars and rapid charging speeds seeing 30-80% charge in just 26 minutes. 

They’re great fun on the road too, with the Seal promising a blistering 0-62mph time of as little as 3.8 seconds.

Putting all its focus into electric and plug-in hybrid cars means BYD specialises really well in a few things, a bit like when a restaurant offers a small menu where all items are top notch.
