What types of used BYD SEAL cars are there?

The BYD SEAL is BYD’s answer to some of the most prominent cars in the market – electric saloons. It’s an electric-only saloon that’s shaped similarly to the SEAL 6 DM-i, which is a plug-in hybrid alternative that’s also available as an estate.

It’s somewhat of a flagship for BYD – a ‘look what we can do’ showpiece. All versions are fully-loaded, and the top spec all-wheel-drive model is lightning fast.

BYD SEAL history

BYD introduced the SEAL pretty early on, and for good reason. It was pitched as a cheaper alternative to the Tesla Model 3.

What features does the BYD SEAL have?

It’s easier to ask which features it doesn’t have, because it’s fully loaded. Even the base model comes with heating for the front seats and steering wheel, cooled front seats, soft Nappa leather, a 10.25-inch driver’s display, a 15.6-inch main touchscreen, vehicle-to-load (V2L), keyless entry and a powered tailgate.

As for driver aids, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), traffic sign recognition and lane-keep assist are all included.

Is the BYD SEAL reliable?

It absolutely is, and because it was one of BYD’s first cars in the UK, plenty have been sold to give us the data we need to know how long-lasting they are.

Regardless, BYD’s impressive Blade battery technology is globally renowned not only because it lasts a long time, but also because it’s durable and protected in the event of an accident.

How much does the BYD SEAL cost to run?

Both models come with an 82.5kWh battery, which delivers up to 354 miles of range in the more efficient rear-wheel-drive variant.

Let’s not forget that they’re all plenty quick enough, and the top-spec model gets to 62mph in 3.8 seconds. For that sort of performance in a petrol car, you’d be paying a pretty penny at the pump.

Who is the BYD SEAL suitable for?

There aren’t many drivers a SEAL wouldn’t be suitable for – being a well-proportioned saloon, it’s great for families as well as those doing a lot of driving who need something comfortable with a good range.

The most obvious rival is the Tesla Model 3, but it also counts the Hyundai IONIQ 6, BMW i4 and Polestar 2 among its competition.
