What types of used BMW X2 cars are there?

The X2 is a great example of the classic BMW ability to produce slick and game-changing SUVs.   

In 2018, BMW launched the X2, which was brought out to slot in between the smaller X1 and larger X3 in the brand’s model range.

Think of this model as being a small SUV that offers the practicality of an estate, so you've got the best of both worlds.   

Being a mid-sized BMW SUV, the X2 is based on the X1 that shares the same platform as the Mini Countryman, meaning parts are easy to come by. It also offers great levels of reliability from a tried-and-tested platform.

As standard, most models come with front-wheel drive, but xDrive variants feature a very impressive four-wheel-drive system. Trims available on the used market include the SE, Sport, M Sport, and M Sport X.   

The X2’s main rivals are the Volvo XC40, Jaguar E-Pace, Volkswagen T-Roc and Mini Countryman, but the BMW styling often gives the X2 the edge.   

Popular BMW X2 trims 

The BMW X2 is available with the usual and very familiar range of BMW trim levels, but most buyers opt for the sporty-looking and well-equipped M Sport model anyway.

BMW X2 history 

Although BMW has a history of making performance and rugged SUVs, the X2 is one of its newer models. Still, there have been two generations. 

> BMW X2 F39 (2018) - Sporty-looking coupé-inspired model sharing parts with BMW X1, 1 Series, and 2 Series 

> BMW X2 U10 (2023) - Completely redesigned with a more coupé-like appearance, similar to the BMW X4 and X6 

What features does the BMW X2 have?

There is a range of used X2 models available on the market, and each trim gets its own collection of impressive features.   

All X2 model variants come with a large infotainment display with a built-in sat-nav, which is powered by the reliable iDrive system.   

There's also the option to connect to your iPhone via Apple CarPlay, though Android Auto connectivity is not available.   

If you get the upgraded Tech pack, however, then you'll get options such as a heads-up display and the uprated Harman Kardon sound system.   

The boot measures 470 litres, which is more than its Audi Q3 rival. Also fitted to all used BMW X2 models is a powered tailgate to make it easier to load and unload shopping.    

Once the rear seats are folded flat, you get a total of 1,355 litres of available boot space, which is plenty for all your luggage needs in a small SUV.

Despite the SUV styling, many used BMW X2 cars are front-wheel-drive, helping with efficiency. BMW’s petrol and diesel engines are consistently economical, and the same is true of the X2. 

In 2020, BMW introduced a plug-in hybrid option, lifted straight out of the X1, which unlocks the potential for rock-bottom running costs.
