X5
The BMW X5 has been a household name in the world of luxury SUVs for as long as the segment has been around. It has led the charge in many ways, and newer models are no different.
Over the years, the X5 has won many awards for its safety, design and quality, which is testament to that BMW attention to detail.
In addition to this, all X5 models have four-wheel drive, and the xDrive system is one of the best on the market, giving you peace of mind when driving in less-than-ideal conditions on the road or off-road.
The X5’s main rivals are the Volvo XC90, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Porsche Cayenne, and Range Rover Sport.
You can choose from a range of used BMW X5 models, including flashy trims like the M Sport and xLine, and a choice of petrol, diesel, and hybrid engines.
Inside, the BMW X5 takes a simplistic approach but offers everything you need for comfortable everyday driving.
The entry-level trim is the BMW X5 xLine, and this one offers climate control and the iDrive infotainment system, plus chunky 19-inch alloy wheels.
The M Sport is an edgier take on the classic, with an aggressive body kit plus all the features from the standard models. You’ll also get larger 20-inch alloys, plus sporty interior touches.
The BMX X5 M50i is the range-topper and brings 22-inch alloys, Adaptive M suspension, and an M Sport exhaust system.
This iDrive system works very well and is looks very crisp through the centre display, but if you fancy using another system, simply connect your smartphone to the car and the software will switch to either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
The cool features don’t end there either, because the boot has a funky trick too. The X5 features a split tailgate, which means it opens in two parts. This is especially useful when you want to load and unload the vehicle when a trailer is attached.
You can see the full range of features in each model by checking out our current used BMW X5 listings.
A used BMW X5 will give you a range of solid engines to choose from, starting with the 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine that produces 340hp and is named the 40i. This is a very smooth engine that provides a decent amount of poke when you want it to.
Moving up is the entry-level 30d diesel engine that produces 365hp and is probably the most popular choice for most people. BMW claims it will return around 47.1mpg and will do so smoothly and with high levels of torque, making it a good towing engine.
At the top of the range, you’ll find the quad-turbocharged M50d diesel engine that produces 400hp, which is the most powerful engine on offer. If you need a car to tow, this is the one you should go for.
There's also a newer xDrive 45e plug-in hybrid model on offer, which would be the better choice if you tend to drive in cities or towns.
All X5 models come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive as standard.
You can get a used BMW X5 on finance, but the costs will depend on the model you choose and the type of car finance you go for.

Being one of the brand’s flagship SUV models, BMW ensures that the X5 is as reliable as it can be. It offers amazing build quality throughout and is available with an impressive range of gearboxes and engines.
As standard, the X5 is not available with seven seats but upgraded models may come with a third row of seats – however, this is not an option on hybrid models.
All X5 models come as standard with BMW’s xDrive four-wheel drive system.
We would say the X5 makes a great family car. This premium luxury SUV rivals the likes of the Range Rover Sport and Porsche Cayenne, and does a good job at it. It's certainly a worthy contender when choosing your next family vehicle.
