BYD SEAL
BYD’s taken the world by storm, making some of the most sought-after electric cars at a great price. Leading the charge is the BYD SEAL – its proper Model 3 rival.
With oodles of tech inside, up to 312 miles of range and plenty of power, it’s a no-brainer for most people.
In its standard Design form, you get 313hp from its electric motors. Move up to the top-spec Excellence AWD trim and you get a staggering 530hp and a 0-62mph time of 3.8 seconds, denoted by the badge on the boot.
Speaking of which, you get 400 litres of boot space and a front boot (froot) with an additional 53 litres.
)
Tesla Model 3
One of the most popular electric cars in the world is the Tesla Model 3, known for its impressive all-electric range, tech and access to Tesla’s Supercharging network – the best in the business.
This is why the Model 3 is up there with some of the best electric saloon cars in the UK.
As standard, it gets a 323-mile range, which already puts it above most rivals, then move up to the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive model, and this gets a claimed 436 miles.
Not only this, but it’s chuffing fast, and gets a very large 594-litre boot, so what’s not to love?
)
Porsche Taycan
Porsche is usually known for its high-end sports cars and various racing teams, but since it started making electric cars in 2019, it’s become a major player in this space too.
The Porsche Taycan is an elite electric car that’s not only good at being what it is, but is also brilliant fun to drive, with more than 1,000hp in top-ranking Turbo GT trim.
You also get up to 421 miles of range, which is far beyond most of its rivals and is a testament to Porsche’s dedication to electric vehicles.
Despite being a high-performance vehicle, you do still get 407 litres of boot space, which far exceeds what you’d expect to find.
)
Mercedes EQS Saloon
The Mercedes EQS Saloon – not to be confused with the SUV – is one of Mercedes’ latest and greatest creations in the world of electric saloon cars.
Essentially, what Merc has done is scrape the insides out of an S-Class and put them into an electric saloon car for an even quieter drive.
With this, you also get a 481-mile range and up to 523hp in its top-spec EQS 580 trim.
So, this plus a massive 610-litre boot makes this a proper premium electric saloon to be enjoyed.
)
BMW i5
Sometimes a sporty BMW is all you need, and that’s where the BMW i5 steps in. It takes the performance capabilities of the petrol-powered 5 Series and adds instant torque from its electric motors.
It comes in two guises – an i5 iDrive40 with 340hp and an i5 M60 with 601hp – both prioritise power.
Handily, they both get the same 81.2kWh battery pack, which offers 357 miles and 315 miles of range, respectively, so go for the slower one if you want to maximise range.
At 490 litres, boot space is good too and is just a few litres down on the standard 5 Series.
)
Audi e-tron GT
The Audi e-tron GT is like the RS4 or RS5 but with a much more futuristic look, similar practicality and heaps of power.
Sharing the platform with the Porsche Taycan, the e-tron GT is no slouch and produces a staggering 925hp in its top-spec trim.
It also has a 93kWh battery, giving it around 300 miles of range – an impressive figure for its performance.
All this and a decent 366-litre boot mean the e-tron GT is a fine electric car fit for a true petrol head.
)
Mercedes EQE Saloon
The Mercedes EQE is a ground-up electric saloon car that brings luxury, style and a solid EV setup to make sure it rivals all the other premium saloons out there.
There are a few different versions, but we’d recommend the base-spec EQE 350+ with 284hp and around 300 miles of range.
But if it’s performance you’re after, the EQE 53 is the one to have with 508hp and a 0-62mph time of just 3.5 seconds.
It also gets a large 430-litre boot that’s plenty for a weekend away or the big weekly shop.
)
Polestar 2
What’s not to love about a bit of Scandinavian minimalism? The Polestar 2 is the epitome of simple electric car driving, but in the best way possible.
The interior is well-thought-out, the trims aren’t over-complicated, and it looks wicked too.
You get the choice between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, with the Long-Range single motor getting the most range at 408 miles and the Dual-Motor Performance Pack getting the most power at 476hp.
Despite its size, it only gets a 405-litre boot, but fold the rear seats and this grows to 1,095 litres.
