Although Nissan was arguably the first car manufacturer to make electric cars affordable to the mainstream market, most of the Nissan electric cars for sale you’ll find will be a first- or second-generation LEAF.
With a perfect formula in place, Nissan added a second electric model to the range, the Ariya SUV.
Nissan is now working on next-generation electric cars, including the revived Micra and an SUV-shaped LEAF.
Types of Nissan electric cars
Nissan offers a small but growing range of electric cars, but the first and probably the most important was a hatchback – that’s good news for electric car newcomers who just want a ‘normal’ car.
Later on, the Ariya arrived in that classic, family-friendly SUV form factor, which means drivers won’t have to think twice about its styling.

Nissan electric car performance
Nissan electric car performance is best considered as brisk, rather than blistering. The instant throttle response makes them feel spritely around town, and most models are quick enough to keep up with some hot hatches.
There is, however, a NISMO version of the Ariya with a whopping 435hp, good for 0-62mph in five seconds, which is quicker than the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX.
Nissan electric car running costs
Running any electric car can be very affordable, but used Nissan electric cars stand out for their excellent efficiency. The 62kWh battery in the LEAF e+ can do a claimed 239 miles – a full charge of that battery might cost as little as £4.40 on an off-peak tariff (7p/kWh).
The Ariya’s biggest battery is the 87kWh pack, but even that only costs around £6.10 to brim if you have cheap rates.
Don’t forget that electric motors feature fewer moving parts than combustion engines, so they can be both more reliable and cheaper to maintain.
Nissan electric car technology
Nissan electric cars for sale are known for their technology, and the e-Pedal system might be the most prominent. It pioneered one-pedal driving with a button that would ramp up the regenerative braking so that it can bring you to a total stop, reducing the wear on the brake pads.
Another standout bit of Nissan tech is ProPILOT Assist, which offers semi-autonomous driving features like a steering aid and adaptive cruise control.

e-POWER is a system that uses an electric motor to drive the wheels, and a petrol engine to top up the battery that powers the motor. Consider it a take on the hybrid. It’s a system that’s available in the Qashqai and X-Trail.
