A BMW iX3 for sale is basically an X3 with the engine stripped out and an electric motor in place of it. There was a lot of pressure with it being the brand’s first-ever electric SUV, but as you can see, they did a pretty good job. Plus, buy a used BMW iX3, and you can save some money, too.

Start nowThe BMW iX3 is a sophisticated electric SUV that offers supreme comfort and tech along with the familiarity of the petrol/diesel X3 models.
There are a few specs to choose from:
Popular BMW iX3 trims
> BMW iX3 M Sport – with bundles of leather and tech, there’s not much else you’d want from a family SUV with the M Sport trim
> BMW iX3 M Sport Pro – building on the M Sport, the M Sport Pro adds 20-inch alloy wheels, aerodynamic styling, M Sport steering wheel and an uprated sound system
BMW iX3 history
BMW launched the iX3 in 2020 on the current generation X3.
Since then, it’s been given a few upgrades to put it in line with its tough rivals.
The BMW iX3’s cabin is almost identical to the standard X3, so there will be no surprises there.
You can expect the same iDrive infotainment system, leather seats and other tech such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
While this is all rather standard BMW, the iX3 does have a nifty trick up its sleeve.
When using the sat-nav, it knows when you go into a lower speed limit area and slows the car down with regenerative braking.
This pumps a bit more juice back into the battery – and who doesn’t want free energy?
Being an electric car, the BMW iX3 is particularly reliable because it has fewer moving parts than a traditional internal combustion engine car. This means fewer things to go wrong.
Twinned with reliability is often safety, which has been a BMW strong point for many years.
Following its most recent Euro NCAP safety tests, the iX3 scored a full five stars, offering particularly strong protection for adult and child occupants.
A used BMW iX3 won’t cost the world to run, mostly because it’s electric but also because of its strong BMW build quality.
Electric cars don’t have the same service intervals as petrol and diesel cars, and there’s also less that can go wrong, so maintenance costs should be kept to a minimum.
As for charging, costs vary all the time, and it’ll usually be more expensive to use a public fast charger than a home wall box charger.
As for the time it takes, you’re looking at around an hour to charge it up to 80% using a 50kW fast charger, and 11 hours with a 7kW charger – note these times will vary.
You might also be tempted by other BMWs like the iX1 or iX2.
BMW iX3 rivals include the Audi Q4 e-tron and Tesla Model Y.
The BMW iX3 stands out in the electric compact SUV segment thanks to its electrified powertrain, blending BMW's driving dynamics with emission-free mobility.
BMW's ConnectedDrive is optimised for a seamless experience with features like remote charging control, real-time range updates and integration with smart devices all from an app, enhancing connectivity and convenience for electric vehicle owners.
The BMW iX3 is driven by EfficientDynamics innovations, incorporating electric mobility technologies such as a high-voltage battery, electric motor efficiency and energy recuperation.
This optimises performance while minimising environmental impact.
It sets new standards for premium SUV interiors with sustainable materials, advanced technology integration and spacious comfort.
The BMW iX3's regenerative braking system optimises range and efficiency by converting kinetic energy into electric power during deceleration, saving energy and extending its range.
