Engine choice is fairly straightforward when it comes to the Q5 Black Edition, but there’s one for everyone. For many buyers, diesel power makes sense in an SUV of this size, and the 204hp 2.0-litre 40 TDI is a great pick.

Those who do a lot of town driving may prefer to go for a petrol option – it’s the quicker 265hp 2.0-litre 45 TFSI.

There’s also a 299hp 2.0-litre petrol plug-in hybrid, which should be able to do around 40 miles on electric power alone between charges. If you can charge it regularly enough, you could spend a lot less on fuel.

A used Audi Q5 Black Edition will mostly come with cosmetic upgrades over the lower trim levels, such as a sporty bodykit and black detailing, including a blacked-out Audi logo on the grille.
