What types of used Audi A1 cars are there?

A used Audi A1 is a luxurious hatchback that's practical, comfortable and cheap to tax. It’s an ideal car for motorists looking for their first premium model before moving on to larger Audi cars or other premium brands.

While original A1s were available in three-door or five-door Sportback and S1 trims, newer generations are only available as five-door Sportback versions. Other model trims include Sport, S-Line and Citycarver.

You’ll get a choice of trim levels in the A1 range, with the Technik being a great entry-level option. The latest Technik models get touches like air-con, the brand’s popular infotainment system, and LED headlights and taillights.   

The range-topping Audi A1 Black Edition gets 18-inch alloys, privacy glass and a black exterior styling pack that looks flashy alongside the contrasting black roof.   

For a small car, the A1 can pack people in very well. Passenger space is generous for six-footers and over, and they won’t be squished in the back either.  

The seats fold 60:40, and the boot space can easily handle a lot of hand luggage or a couple of small suitcases. The boot floor is also adjustable, which is handy for making the most of the space on offer. 

Is the Audi A1 reliable?

New models come with the backing of a three-year/60,000-mile warranty (there’s no mileage cap in the first two years), which still applies to in-date used cars. 

It's also packed with safety kit for extra peace of mind. Unsurprisingly, both generations of the A1 were awarded five-star safety ratings from Euro NCAP. 

How much does the Audi A1 cost to run?

Many Audi A1s for sale come with 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engines, which should be able to get as much as 50mpg. They’re also cheap to tax. 

First-generation A1 cars were sold with similar-sized petrol engines plus a 1.6-litre diesel, offering up even cheaper running costs – especially on longer trips. 

Insurance should be cheap because of its small size and comparably low power outputs, but you may pay slightly more than you would for a non-premium car. 

Who is the Audi A1 suitable for?

The used Audi A1 is one of the best small cars and proves it’s worth the extra investment for a premium feel and drive, even for such a small car.
