All models include a seven-inch HD display that can be controlled via a command wheel located to the left of the driver’s seat.

There's also the inclusion of an integrated sat-nav system and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, so you can just hook up your phone to the system and mirror that screen.

The top-of-the-range GT Sport model gets extra touches like heated front seats and leather steering wheel, plus a handy heads-up display.

The boot measures in at 280 litres, which grows to 950 litres once the rear seats are folded flat. This is plenty of space for a city car and should hold all your luggage with no problem.

What's the Mazda 2 like to drive?

Newer versions of the 2 are available with three different power options, all powered by the same 1.5-litre petrol engine. The power levels available are 76hp, 91hp and 116hp.

Older variants of the 2 were available with 1.5-litre diesel engines, which would be preferable on longer journeys because they would return greater fuel economy over time.

But if you fancy entering the world of full hybrid vehicles, then there is the 2 hybrid based on the Toyota Yaris, which is a great option for someone wanting to experience a hybrid but who isn’t ready to charge it just yet.

This is powered by the same 1.5-litre petrol engine but is mated to a self-charging hybrid system that promises a combined 60mpg.
