The Land Rover Discovery has existed since 1989, and has since undergone some massive changes, shifting it from a proper off-road vehicle to what we have today – a large family SUV (that’s still as good off road as anything else on the market). 

> First-generation Land Rover Discovery Series 1 (1989-1998) - a British icon, with a retro look and the off-road capabilities of a mountain goat 

> Second-generation Land Rover Discovery L319 (2004-2010) - much tougher than the last, this featured full independent air suspension and looked the part, too 

> Third-generation Land Rover Discovery L462 (2017-present) - departing from its traditional look, Land Rover gave this one a more modern style with the tech to match

How much does the Land Rover Discovery cost to run?

It’s no surprise that the Land Rover Discovery is seriously impressive to drive.  

Whether you’re settling into a comfortable cruise to go the distance or heading off-track and tackling some testing terrain, the Land Rover Discovery can do it with ease.    

You’ll usually find that the Discovery is fitted with air suspension as standard, so the ride will be smooth no matter the surface.  

The Terrain Response setup is also impressive, shifting to the best driving mode for the situation.    

We recommend the P360 engine for 360hp and a claimed 0-62mph of 6.5 seconds, but the D300 is also impressive. 

The diesel engine offers 300hp and a similar 0-62mph of 6.5 seconds and has no problem pulling along the spacious Discovery and anything you might tow. 

Both options feel great on the road, but the diesel might be better suited if you know you’ll be making lots of long journeys.
