What types of used CUPRA Ateca cars are there?

The CUPRA Ateca was the first model under the new CUPRA brand, when it spun off from parent company SEAT. It was little more than a SEAT Ateca with a minor rebrand, but over the years, it has gained a more unique style.

For example, a 2020 facelift brought sharper styling, updated technology and improved interior materials.

There aren’t dozens of trims to choose from, but each version does have its own selling points.

> CUPRA Ateca V1 – this is considered the entry-level model for later editions, and comes with a digital instrument cluster and sports seats

CUPRA Ateca history

The Ateca was CUPRA’s first car, but it’s since been discontinued to make room for other SUVs like the Terramar.

What features does the CUPRA Ateca have?

Every CUPRA Ateca gets sports seats, a digital driver's display, a central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and cruise control. Higher-spec models add luxuries including leather trim, a panoramic sunroof and a noisy Akrapovič titanium exhaust system. 

The 300hp turbocharged petrol engine is paired with a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox and 4Drive all-wheel drive, helping it sprint from 0-62mph in under five seconds, but newer models saw the introduction of lesser-powered engines like the 150hp 1.5-litre petrol. 

Despite its sporty nature, the Ateca is very much a practical family car, offering five seats and a 485-litre boot that comfortably handles family life, holidays or weekly shopping. 

Is the CUPRA Ateca reliable?

The CUPRA Ateca uses Volkswagen Group mechanical components that have been fitted to millions of vehicles worldwide, so everything is truly tried and tested. 

It received a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating through the closely related SEAT Ateca, thanks to excellent occupant protection and a wide range of driver assistance systems. 

How much does the CUPRA Ateca cost to run?

Earlier models focused on performance only, so the 300hp 2.0-litre petrol engine will generally return around 30-35mpg on a run. Later models brought more economical engines, like the 1.5-litre petrol, so over 40mpg could be possible. 

Insurance costs can be higher for certain performance models, but overall running costs for a lower-powered model could be very similar to those of a SEAT Ateca and other family crossovers.
