What is the Audi Q7 Black Edition?

Black Edition is the name given to the highest specification on Audi’s latest models, which means this version of the Q7 is filled to the brim with all the car tech you can think of.

Besides being a very well-specced model, it also comes with plenty of styling enhancements including – as its name suggests – some black details.

This trim level became available on the second-generation model, introduced in 2015, but plenty of mid-life facelifts have kept this seven-seater SUV looking and feeling fresh.

What are the Audi Q7 Black Edition specs?

Engine choice for the Audi Q7 Black Edition is surprisingly good given that many SUVs are limited to diesel power. For example, there’s a 340hp 3.0-litre V6 petrol, badged 55 TFSI.

There are some diesel options, too, including the 231hp 45 TDI and the 286hp 50 TDI. They’re both 3.0-litre V6 units.

The final option is a petrol plug-in hybrid. It also uses a 3.0-litre V6 engine, but the whole system puts out a pretty impressive 381hp.

It should be able to do around 30 miles on electric power alone, and if you can charge it regularly, it can be cheaper to run than the diesels.

Used Audi Q7 Black Edition features and equipment

A used Audi Q7 Black Edition’s kit will vary depending on model year, but some of the latest models come with large 21-inch alloys, air suspension that’s been tuned for a sportier drive, and four-zone climate control.

They also get things like leather upholstery, heated seats, a reversing camera, cruise control, all-around parking sensors and a powered boot lid.

All Q7 Black Edition cars come with a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a digital instrument cluster, but some newer models also get a second touchscreen on the centre console for controlling the car’s interior temperature.

Where the Q7 Black Edition sits in the Audi range

Black Edition models are primarily style-focused upgrades over the already desirable S line models.

Previously, there were entry-level SE and mid-spec Sport cars on sale, but these were dropped in favour of giving the Q7 a more upmarket feel.

For a period, Audi also sold a very high-spec Vorsprung model. It was expensive to buy new, but they have come down in price, which is great news for used car buyers.
