Start nowThe SEAT Leon might be tempting for the motorist who finds a Volkswagen Golf a little plain. They're essentially the same car, but visually, they're very distinguishable.
SEAT’s first Leon model came out in 1999 and has since sold millions worldwide, with more than 250,000 being sold in the UK alone by 2022.
As it shares the same platform with the Golf, this means it's also closely related to the Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia underneath. This makes it a reliable model that you can depend on for everyday use, thanks to SEAT’s impressive manufacturing.
Leon models are available with either a petrol or diesel engine, or a hybrid system that was introduced in 2020.
There are a range of different trims on offer, including the SE, SE Dynamic, FR, FR Sport, Xcellence, and Xcellence Lux.
The SEAT Leon has a very sharp and clean interior that feels both modern and chic.
The entry-level SE trim comes as standard with an 8.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, USB ports, a DAB radio, Bluetooth and steering wheel button controls.
Optional extras include a larger 10-inch touchscreen with sat-nav, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a customisable digital gauge cluster on newer high-end models.
Being related to the Golf, the Leon has a similar-sized boot, measuring in at 380 litres. Ahead of the boot, there is plenty of space for passengers in both the front and rear.
If you’re used to the inside of a Golf, then you won’t be too shocked by the ample room inside the Leon.
You can see the full range of features available in each model by checking our current used SEAT Leon listings.
On used SEAT Leon models from 2019, the engine options include two turbocharged petrol engines: a 1.0-litre TSI Evo; and a 1.5-litre TSI Evo. Both engines are great for everyday use around town or on slightly longer journeys.
However, if you're wanting to do much longer journeys, then the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine might be better suited to your needs.
There's also a 1.4-litre e-hybrid option in the range now, which will be the perfect option for someone who lives in a city.
Leon models of old include a 1.4-litre petrol engine, a 1.2-litre petrol engine, and a 1.6-litre diesel.
Each one is enjoyable to drive and easy to rely on, so will fit into the lives of most motorists.
The SEAT Leon is reliable as it shares its platform with the dependable Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia.
The Leon scored an impressive five stars following its Euro NCAP crash testing, placing it with the top of its class.
It is possible to get a used SEAT Leon on a finance deal, but the costs will depend on the model you choose and the type of finance. You can use our online car finance calculator to get a quote.
SEAT Leon models are either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD) depending on the model variant. The sportier models often come with AWD, but this varies across the range and model years.
There isn’t all that much difference between the SEAT Leon and the Volkswagen Golf, but they do have a few different engine options, different exterior styling and interior look. Fundamentally, however, they are the same.
We think the SEAT Leon is a great car, especially for someone wanting a Volkswagen Golf alternative as a family hatchback or a car to commute in. It’s available with a range of engine options and offers practicality and reliability.
