Alfa Romeo, DS and Maserati to go electric from 2025

Trio of sister brands will switch to battery power five years before the UK’s ban on new petrol and diesel cars

article hero

Fans of electric cars will be happy to learn that Alfa Romeo, DS and Maserati have become the latest car brands to announce a switch to all-electric power, with the trio of Stellantis Group brands ditching petrol and diesel power from 2025. That’s five years before the UK’s ban on new petrol and diesel car sales, and it brings the trio of sister brands into line with rival company, Jaguar. Something tells us that’s probably not by coincidence…

Alfa Romeo, DS and Maserati’s switch is only for cars to be launched after 2025, so models already in production – like the new hybrid Tonale SUV we met in the metal the other day – can survive into the second half of the decade with petrol power. But the commitment means the 2020s will almost certainly end with no petrol- or diesel-powered cars in the companies’ respective line-ups. So don’t hang about if you want one.

The trio of brands join other Stellantis Group companies – including the likes of Vauxhall, Peugeot and Citroen, as well as Fiat, Abarth and Jeep – in going all-electric, as part of the firm’s commitment to cut carbon emissions for its cars. It’s part of a wider industry trend to make the world of automotive more sustainable – and appease growing demand for electric cars the world over. Interestingly, sales of electric cars grew faster than all other fuel types during the pandemic – as did the variety of models on offer.

Naturally, cinch’s range of all-electric and hybrid cars has grown too, with over 1,300 cars at the time of writing to choose from. Electric cars slot into all model brackets, from small hatchbacks to large SUVs, so you needn’t wait until brands like Alfa Romeo, DS and Maserati switch to electric to bag yourself a battery-powered car, because all of our cars can be delivered to your door, or collected in person. Talk about being ready for the electric revolution!
