About the Volvo V40
The Volvo V40 is a compact family hatchback that offers great safety, reliability and good looks. First launched in 2012, the V40 was Volvo's entry-level vehicle, rivalling the BMW 1 Series and Volkswagen Golf.
It is available with a range of both petrol and diesel engine options – all of which are very economical.
Compared to its competition, the V40 on the second-hand market offers some excellent value for money.
Is the Volvo V40 reliable?
Volvo is well known for building solid engines and safe cars, and the V40 is no exception, having achieved an impressive five-star Euro NCAP rating thanks in part to a full set of crash safety features and a new knee airbag.
Another safety feature that can be found on the V40 (and was the first of its kind) is a pedestrian airbag that pops out from the front of the car should you collide with a passerby.
However, to avoid this in the first place, all V40 models come with Volvo’s City Safety feature, which automatically applies the brakes if the car senses a potential collision up ahead.
Other clever safety features include Driver Alert Control which detects and warns tired drivers.
Every car we sell comes with a 90-day free warranty to ensure they are working as they should. After that, you can purchase cinchCare to increase the protection of your vehicle.
What are the Volvo V40 features?
What most buyers like about the Volvo V40 is its rugged and utilitarian nature, thanks to its impressive build quality and state-of-the-art interior technology.
Inside, the V40 feels very futuristic with its curves and interesting ergonomic designs. The entry-level Momentum model comes well equipped with automatic wipers, LED headlights, cruise control, front and rear parking assistance, sat-nav, climate control, and a whole host of safety features.
Optional extras on the V40 include a panoramic sunroof, headlamp washers, heated seats, keyless entry, and extra technology such as more rear parking aids – not to mention a high-end Bowers & Wilkinson speaker system available on top of the standard Harman Kardon system.
All V40 models also come with a glow-in-the-dark gear knob too, which we think is not only useful but adds to its quirky charm.
What's the Volvo V40 like to drive?
The Volvo V40 comes with a decent range of petrol and diesel engine options – in fact, there are three of each.
The petrol engines include the T3 (1.6-litre with 150hp), T4 (1.6-litre with 180hp) and T5 (2.5-litre with 254hp). The diesel engine options include the D2 (1.6-litre with 115hp), D3 (2.0-litre with 150hp) and D4 (2.0-litre with 177hp).
Volvo is also proud of its fuel-efficient diesel engines, which offer up to 78.8mpg.
