What is the Volkswagen Touareg R-Line?

R-Line is the name given to Volkswagen’s sportier-looking trim levels, which means that the used Volkswagen Touareg R-Line benefits from a stylish makeover.

Despite styling inspired by the performance Touareg R, the R-Line comes with the usual engine options found elsewhere in the range, which means it should cost less to run.

All R-Line cars, including any Touareg R-Line for sale, are extremely desirable cars, but because they’re so popular, you shouldn’t have a problem finding one used.

What are the Volkswagen Touareg R-Line specs?

There’s only one engine option for the Touareg, including the R-Line variant, but it’s an excellent all-rounder and suits this car’s size and weight very well.

You’ll be limited to a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine, but there are two power outputs to be aware of – 231hp and 286hp.

Both come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive, making them comfortable as well as very capable off-road and for towing (they can both tow up to 3,500kg). They’re surprisingly quick, too.

It’s easy to spot a Touareg R-Line from the outside because it has eye-catching alloys, a sportier bodykit and plenty of ‘R’ badging around the car, as well as some black details where the lower-spec model uses chrome.

R-Line models come with four-zone climate control, all-around parking sensors, a reversing camera and a self-parking assistant.

They also get LED headlights, a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless start, adaptive cruise control and a lot of safety kit.

Where the Touareg R-Line sits in the Volkswagen range

R-Line is a high-spec trim level regardless of which Volkswagen model you pick, and the Touareg is no exception.

It sits above the entry-level SEL model, which is fully loaded and can barely be compared to an entry-level pick from a smaller car. Newer models have an Elegance option, which replaced SEL.

There are SEL Tech and R-Line Tech versions, too, which come with a large digital instrument cluster and an even bigger touchscreen infotainment system.
