What features does the smart fortwo coupé have?

A used smart fortwo isn’t the most hi-tech car, and certainly isn’t the biggest, but this plays to its strengths.  

The reason any smart car is so popular is because its compact. Easy to manoeuvre and easy to park in busy cities. 

While some models come with features such as heated and electric mirrors, parking sensors and sat-nav, you don’t need many extras for a nippy city car. 

But if you do want added tech, the fortwo EQ electric model is best for you, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto among other things. 

Is the smart fortwo coupé reliable?

The smart fortwo gets the job done with very few frills. That means there's less to go wrong. 

It was also backed by Mercedes-Benz, and later Geely, so that plays into its strong build quality. 

For the most reliable option, the electric version will have even fewer moving parts. EVs tend to go wrong less since there's less going on mechanically. 

How much does the smart fortwo coupé cost to run?

The entire ethos of a smart car is to be affordable – from the point of purchase to the running costs and maintenance. 

Their small engines and easily replaceable parts mean that if anything were to go wrong, it should be an easy fix. But with regular servicing, there shouldn’t be anything to worry about. 

If you go for the EQ, you’ll benefit from even cheaper running costs at between 8p and 80p/kWh to charge.  

Who is the smart fortwo coupé suitable for?

A smart fortwo for sale is a great option for those after a funky city car that’s easy to drive, park and live with. 

While it can easily be driven on the motorway and longer journeys, it’s far happier around town at lower speeds, and that’s where you’ll see the proper fuel economy benefit. 

Should I buy a used smart fortwo coupé?

Are smart cars good on the motorway?

Yes. They may not be as suitable as an estate car or SUV, but they can handle a long motorway journey with ease. 

Are used smart cars worth buying?

Definitely. No matter whether it’s a new or used smart car, you’re still getting something nippy and easy to drive. 

Do you need tax for a smart car?

Their small engines mean fewer emissions than many other cars, but you do still need to pay tax.  

Also, at the time of writing (June 2024), you don’t need to pay tax on the electric EQ models. 

Does smart still make the fortwo?

No. The fortwo was discontinued in 2023 to make way for the #1 and #3 electric-only models. 

Is there a smart fortwo electric car?

Yes. It’s called the fortwo EQ and it has an official range of up to 84 miles.
