Smart used cars
Smart cars are known for their small size, fuel efficiency and easy-to-park nature.
Whether you’re concerned about reliability, safety or running costs, a used Smart car has you covered.
Smart hatchback and Smart convertible options are particularly popular.
History of Smart
Smart’s already an unusual marque, with its small cars and interesting design language, but where did this come from?
Concepts first emerged in the 1970s when Mercedes-Benz was experimenting with making fuel-efficient small cars, but nothing launched until the late 1990s.
Before this, in the early 1980s, Swatch (a Swiss wristwatch maker) partnered with Daimler to see what a fun little car could be, and this is how the Smart name was born – Swatch Mercedes Art.
Nowadays, Smart has moved away from small cars and instead makes electric vehicles aimed at families to support the increasing desire for such vehicles.
Standout Smart features
Inside, used Smart cars are available with a range of features including a large infotainment system with some models supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated seats, A/C, cruise control, parking sensors and panoramic sunroofs.
There’s also a significant emphasis on safety, being so closely related to Mercedes-Benz. This means it’s packed full of important features such as driver assist tech.
Driving a Smart
This Mercedes-owned brand is generally considered to offer reliable vehicles. In fact, they consistently rank well in reliability surveys and among owners.
This is due to a range of solid engines and overall engineering that stems from its parent company.
Reliability goes hand in hand with safety, and used Smart cars are generally considered safe, offering excellent safety equipment such as airbags, ISOFIX child seat points and automatic emergency braking.
Tech-wise, you get loads – from lane-keeping assist to blind spot monitoring – to ensure occupants are as safe as possible. All this helps Smart models score highly in Euro NCAP safety tests.
Smart cars for sale are a good choice for drivers looking for a reliable, safe and affordable city car. They're also great for drivers living in urban areas who need a car that’s easy to park.
And, if you like to watch the pennies, they’re fuel-efficient too – offering up to 62mpg in some cases, or 273 miles of range with electric models.
Should I buy a used Smart?
What autonomous driving features does Smart use?
Smart adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking and intelligent parking assistance systems to its vehicles. These help to enhance driving comfort and reduce the risk of accidents, making Smart cars a 'smart' choice for modern drivers.
How does Smart contribute to urban mobility solutions?
Smart does this by leveraging technology to improve transportation efficiency. Through real-time data, its navigation system can offer faster routes to get around and avoid traffic congestion. This creates smoother, faster and more eco-friendly commuting in crowded cities.
What safety innovations has Smart implemented?
Smart uses features such as advanced driver-assistance systems, collision avoidance technology, reinforced safety cell construction and comprehensive airbag systems.
How do city cars differ from other types of cars?
City cars differ from other types of cars by being compact, more fuel-efficient and easier to park in tight city spaces. They prioritise size over power, making them ideal for city driving and short commutes. With their smaller size and nimble handling, city cars offer a budget-friendly option for city dwellers looking for faff-free mobility.
What are the advantages of owning a Smart car in a city?
Owning a Smart car in a city comes with its advantages. Thanks to their compact size, it's easier to navigate tight spaces and congested streets, making parking a breeze. Smart cars are fuel-efficient too, which is good for the environment and our wallets. Their trendy design and tech features make them a stylish choice for those living that city life.
