Start nowPolestar is a really exciting electric car brand that promises the world – and actually delivers.
It’s got the financial backing and safety know-how from Volvo, yet it has a path and identity of its own.
Polestar is a Swedish car brand that’s been around since 1996, when it started as a motorsport team before being acquired by Volvo in 2015 as its performance arm.
For many years, it was what Abarth is to Fiat or what Brabus is to Mercedes – it took existing Volvos and tuned them up to be more performance-oriented.
In 2018, however, Polestar launched its first car called the ‘1’, a hybrid sports car offering great performance, fuel efficiency and looks.
Now, it focuses on electric cars while still under the watchful eye of Volvo and Geely.
As far as features are concerned, all used Polestar cars come as standard with excellent options such as a solid infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, comfortable seats and up to four USB ports.
If you want a swankier one, however, there are a range of performance packs on offer.
The first is the Pilot Pack, which includes Pixel LED headlights with adaptive high beam, adaptive cruise control and pilot assist.
The next up is the Plus Pack, which adds a panoramic, noise-reducing glass roof and a powerful Harman Kardon Premium Sound speaker setup.
Sitting at the top of the pack range is the Performance Pack, which gets a bunch of handling and power upgrades.
Being so closely related to Volvo, Polestar used cars excel when it comes to safety.
Following its most recent Euro NCAP safety test, the Polestar 2 scored a full five-star rating thanks to safety features such as plenty of airbags, front and rear ISOFIX child seat points, automatic emergency braking and speed assistance systems.
Being fully electric cars, a Polestar for sale gets a boost when it comes to reliability because there are fewer moving parts than in a traditional internal combustion engine car.
They’re also built to an incredibly high standard and follow Volvo’s mantra of ‘less but better’ – especially when safety is concerned.
The cost of owning an electric car will vary depending on how you use it and which one you have.
A used Polestar has a range of 300-379 miles, so you’d be visiting the charging stations much less.
Overall, once the initial cost is paid, the running costs should be kept to a minimum.
The sort of person who’d be looking to buy a used Polestar is either an existing electric car owner wanting the next step up, or someone who really likes simplicity and just wants the most comfortable car they can get.
They offer extensive ranges, loads of tech, OTA software updates, and are great fun to drive.
There are a select few used Polestar cars for sale, which means your buying decision can be more focused.
If you want a hatchback-style EV that’s fun to drive and comfortable then the Polestar 2 is for you.
If you want something with more space, however, then the larger Polestar 3 SUV is for you.
Polestar was acquired by Volvo Cars in 2015. Its vehicles are produced in China, home to Volvo's corporate parent, Geely.
As electric cars go, Polestars sit in the middle when it comes to price. Brand-new, they can cost as much as £95,000, but buy a used model and they can be as little as £25,000.
A brand-new Polestar 2 can cost up to £65,000, but buy a used example and you can expect to pay in the region of £27,000.
Yes, we’d say it is. Polestars have incredibly comfortable interiors that can be likened to Volvo or Tesla. They’re also cheaper than some petrol-powered rivals, which is always a bonus.
