Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe buying guide

What types of used Mercedes GLE Coupé cars are there?

The Mercedes GLE Coupé blends sporty coupé styling, such as a sloping rear roofline, with the size and road presence of a big SUV. It’s based on the Mercedes GLE, which is a big family SUV.

Popular Mercedes GLE Coupé trims

You get the usual range of Mercedes trim levels, but the GLE Coupé is typically only sold in the higher specs.

> Mercedes GLE Coupé AMG Line Premium – sporty design with LED headlights, 360-degree parking camera and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto

> Mercedes GLE Coupé AMG Line Premium Plus – handy upgrades like heated windscreen washer jets and a heated steering wheel

Mercedes GLE Coupé history

Introduced with the third-generation GLE (W166), the GLE Coupé was Mercedes’ first attempt at a mainstream coupé-SUV. There have now been two generations.

> First-generation C292 Mercedes GLE Coupé (2015) – chunky design and slightly more dated interior layout based on older Mercedes models

> Second-generation C167 Mercedes GLE Coupé (2019) – much more luxurious with better car tech and more efficient power options

What features does the Mercedes GLE Coupé have?

Over the course of two generations, Mercedes has updated the GLE Coupé several times, so what you’ll get varies widely.

Second-generation cars get a powered boot lid, adaptive LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, keyless start, a parking assistant with a 360-degree parking camera, wireless phone charging and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Is the Mercedes GLE Coupé reliable?

A used Mercedes GLE Coupé is generally considered a reliable SUV thanks to its robust engineering and high-quality materials.

How much does the Mercedes GLE Coupé cost to run?

The Mercedes GLE Coupé is a heavy SUV, so most models only get around 30mpg.. Insurance costs can be equally expensive.

Thankfully, there are some excellent plug-in hybrids, even some with diesel power, that promise cheaper motoring. The best have a range of up to around 60 miles, which is impressive.

Who is the Mercedes GLE Coupé suitable for?

A used Mercedes GLE Coupé for sale is ideal for drivers who want a blend of luxury, performance and style. It caters to those who want the versatility of an SUV without taking the options route.

Other than a GLE Coupé, you could also look for a BMW X6, Audi Q8 or Porsche Cayenne Coupé.
