Mazda Mazda2 buying guide
What types of used Mazda 2 cars are there?
The Mazda 2 has always been a less obvious pick when it comes to the supermini market, but it’s a worthy pick thanks to its peppy engine and neat handling. With the launch of an all-new hybrid version in 2022, Mazda hopes it can boost sales of its compact hatchback even further.
Popular Mazda 2 trims
Mazda’s trim levels are seriously impressive, and unless you want some pretty premium tech, the base spec has more than enough to offer.
> Mazda 2 SE-L - the SE-L is the entry point with cruise control, rear parking sensors, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
> Mazda 2 Sport - Mid-spec Sport model with keyless entry and plenty of styling enhancements
> Mazda 2 GT Sport - Range-topping GT Sport with heated front seats, heated steering wheel, reversing camera and head-up display
Mazda 2 history
A few different versions of the Mazda 2 have come and gone, but it’s the third-generation model introduced in 2014 that you’re most likely to find on the used market.
> Third-generation Mazda 2 (2014) - Looks similar to its predecessor but a notable step up in quality
> Facelifted Mazda 2 (2019) - Sharper styling enhancements with high-end kit added to some trim levels
> Facelifted Mazda 2 (2023) - Redesigned front end with a few other minor changes inside and out
What features does the Mazda 2 have?
Standard kit depends on lot on the model year you pick since the third-gen has been on sale for a decade.
Newer facelifted models have cruise control, air-conditioning, electric windows and rear parking sensors as standard.
Newer Mazda 2 cars for sale also come with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – higher trim levels make this smartphone connectivity wireless.
Is the Mazda 2 reliable?
The Mazda 2 has a reputation for solid build quality, efficient performance and low maintenance costs. Consumer reviews typically highlight the car’s dependability and longevity.
How much does the Mazda 2 cost to run?
With the Mazda 2’s 1.5-litre petrol engines, you might think it’ll be more expensive to run than other models because of the bigger engine size. The truth is Mazda uses clever technology to make sure they’re just as cheap to run.
You’ll also benefit from low insurance groups, cheap car tax and affordable spare parts.
Who is the Mazda 2 suitable for?
A used Mazda 2 for sale should appeal to solo drivers who enjoy nipping around town in a stylish and comfy model – in a sea of Ford Fiestas and Vauxhall Corsas, the Mazda 2 has the styling edge.
