What types of used Kia Optima cars are there?

A used Kia Optima is an ideal car for anyone on the market for a mid-size saloon. It’s stylishly designed, comes in at an affordable price point, and has a comfortable and spacious interior.  

You can grab a used Optima with a couple of engines that make for a fuel-efficient and confident drive that will never feel sluggish.  

One thing to note is that Kia models usually come with a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty, so even if you’re buying a used model, it might still be covered.

What features does the Kia Optima have?

There are a few Optima models on offer, and each gets its own range of features.  

The entry-level Optima Sportswagon 2 gets a reversing camera system, front and rear parking sensors and a seven-inch touchscreen navigation system.  

The Optima GT-Line S model is one of the current range-toppers and gets all the standard kit plus some extras. There’s an eight-inch touchscreen unit, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging and high beam assist available in this iteration.  

There’s also a brilliant middle ground in the Optima Sportswagon 3. This model gets great upgrades like the bigger eight-inch touchscreen, privacy glass and a Harman/Kardon Premium Sound System, just at a lower price point.

Is the Kia Optima reliable?

A used Kia Optima for sale is regarded as a highly reliable car, and the aforementioned seven-year/100,000-mile manufacturer warranty also adds peace of mind. The Optima has received high praise from its drivers and scores well on consumer reliability surveys across the board.  

The Optima was also awarded a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP on its last test back in 2015, and newer models also get a really generous helping of safety kit.

How much does the Kia Optima cost to run?

Used Kia Optima cars have a couple of engines on offer, including an efficient 1.7-litre diesel that gets some more upgrades in the latest models. There isn't any need for loads of engine offerings, as those in the line-up are economical, reliable and provide a great pull of power.  

Overall, driving the Optima is made comfortable with a suspension that easily irons out bumps in the roads. The steering is also light, adding to the agile feel of the car.

Has the Kia Optima been discontinued?

The original Optima has been slowly phased out by Kia as it makes changes to its line-up, and it has been announced that it won’t be manufacturing any more. The best way to experience this OG favourite is by bagging yourself a high-quality used model.

Is the Kia Optima good on fuel?

The Optima is a seriously efficient car and usually does well on fuel. The 1.7-litre diesel model has a claimed combined stat of 64.2mpg with the manual model.  

The automatic transmission model offers 61.4mpg, so although it's lower than its manual sibling, it can still be really efficient.  

Is the Kia Optima an all-wheel drive?

The original Optima models are all manufactured with front-wheel drive, but Kia has rebooted the Optima in the K5 model and does offer all-wheel drive options.  

The new K5 model is not currently sold in the UK, but the front-wheel drive option of the Optima is still impressive and provides enough grip for everyday use.
