What is the Ford Focus ST-3?

ST, which means Sports Technologies, is the name given to Ford’s performance-oriented models, and the Focus ST makes for an attractive and practical hot hatch.

It bridges the gap perfectly between more sedate versions of the Ford Focus and the quick and costly Focus RS.

There are petrol and diesel versions of the Ford Focus ST-3, much like its rivals from Volkswagen and Audi, making it a car that appeals to even more drivers.

What are the Ford Focus ST-3 specs?

Newer versions of the Ford Focus ST come with a 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, which has a power output of 280hp.

Manual versions do 0-62mph in 5.8 seconds, and automatic versions with a dual-clutch gearbox take 0.2 seconds longer.

There’s also a 2.0-litre diesel version, though it has less power. With 190hp, it does the same acceleration sprint in 7.6 seconds.

The latest fourth-generation model, introduced in 2018, comes with adaptive LED headlights, a reversing camera, an upgraded B&O sound system, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, heated seats and a heated steering wheel.

Facelifted models sold from 2022 also come with a digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging and a sharper-looking front end.

Both come with touchscreen infotainment systems that work with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but facelifted models come with Ford’s newer SYNC 4 system and a much larger screen, so if you like your car tech, then newer is better.

Where the Focus ST-3 sits in the Ford range

ST is the highest trim level you can get, though there are sporty-looking ST-Line and ST-Line X variants that come with more economical engine options. ST-3 sits above ST-2 and ST-1 models.

Mid-spec models include Titanium and Titanium X, as well as rugged-looking Active and Active X versions that are meant to look like mini-crossovers.

Other trim levels that have previously been available include entry-level Zetec and Trend, while Vignale variants have also been sold with a more premium feel.
