History of Chery

Founded in 1997 and one of China’s biggest car manufacturers, the brand started selling cars in the UK in 2025. That said, sister companies JAECOO and OMODA had already established themselves here a year earlier.

History for the brand, particularly in the UK, is still being written, mostly because Chery is the parent company of other brands that continue to launch here, as well as being a brand in its own right with the TIGGO range.

Standout Chery features

The first thing you’ll notice about Chery is the modern design, with clean lines, bold grilles and slim LED lights. They look and feel far more familiar than you might think from a new brand.

Inside, you get impressive multi-display setups with voice control, over-the-air (OTA) updates and smartphone mirroring via Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

The Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) system is also a standout feature for its multi-mode driving experience – it’ll combine electricity and petrol however it sees fit for maximum efficiency, be it using petrol to charge the battery or drive the wheels. It’s really very clever.

Driving a Chery

There’s nothing untoward about driving a Chery – if you’ve driven any other automatic, it’s instantly familiar.

Petrol models use a dual-clutch transmission to filter through gears efficiently, and the plug-in hybrids have specialised hybrid gearboxes that do the thinking for you.

All Chery cars for sale are geared for comfort, which means the suspension and steering feel light around town.

Popular used Chery cars

Being a new brand, used Chery cars for sale come and go and there aren’t as many as established brands just yet, but that’ll change with time.

The brand launched in the UK with the TIGGO 7, a five-seater SUV, and the TIGGO 8, a bigger seven-seater version of that same car.

Later on, the TIGGO 9 launched as a flagship SUV with a powerful hybrid system and top-notch tech.
