What is the BMW X3 xLine?

xLine is a popular trim for BMW X3 drivers who value comfort because it’s set up with a softer suspension and slightly smaller wheels (which means more rubber) than some of the sporty versions of this car.

Besides the styling enhancements, a used BMW X3 xLine sits near the top of the range, so it comes packed with plenty of car tech.

What are the BMW X3 xLine specs?

Two of the most popular engine options for the BMW X3 xLine are the 2.0-litre units – either the petrol-powered 20i or the diesel-powered 20d. They have 184hp and 190hp respectively.

There’s also a plug-in hybrid option. It uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine and an electric motor to produce 292hp, and BMW reckons you’ll get 20-30 miles of electric range out of it for cruising around town silently.

Previously, BMW sold a 265hp 3.0-litre diesel (badged 30d), so if you’re willing to look for slightly older models, then you can get these more powerful cars.

Because xLine has been an option for BMW X3 owners for many years, equipment levels vary, so it’s important to check any individual listing before committing to a purchase.

As a guide, the latest BMW X3 xLine cars for sale come with LED headlights, all-round parking sensors, a powered boot lid, cruise control and three-zone climate control.

They also get a dual-screen setup – one for the digital instrument cluster and another for the touchscreen infotainment system.

Being a BMW, there are plenty of options, including laser headlights that are meant to illuminate up to half a mile ahead of the car, a built-in dashcam, a 360-degree parking camera, a heads-up display, a heated steering wheel and keyless entry.

Where the X3 xLine sits in the BMW range

xLine is considered a mid-level trim that’s more plush than it is cheap – it replaced the Sport trim as a middling option well over a decade ago.

Entry-level cars come in SE format, while range-toppers are M Sport variants. They look a lot sportier but don’t come with a lot more kit than xLine models, because BMW prefers to package its kit in optional extras.
