What is the BMW X1 Sport?

Sport is a mid-level trim option for many BMW models, including the popular X1 crossover, and it represents good value for money in the lineup.

As the name suggests, every BMW X1 Sport for sale has a slight styling enhancement over more basic models that give them a sportier look, but buying a used BMW X1 Sport also means that you get good levels of kit.

Sport has been an option on all versions of the BMW X1, including first-generation rear-wheel-drive models and more recent front-wheel-drive cars, so there should be an X1 Sport to suit every driver.

What are the BMW X1 Sport specs?

Second-generation F48 models are readily available, and include many popular engine options such as the 150hp 18d and the 190hp 20d – both 2.0-litre diesels, as well as the 136hp 18i and the 184hp 20i, which are 2.0-litre petrols.

Besides a few other more powerful options, there’s also a 220hp plug-in hybrid, which uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine and should be able to do around 20 miles on electric power.

Newer third-generation U11 models come with new engine options, including a 170hp 1.5-litre petrol (20i) and a 218hp 2.0-litre petrol (23i), plus two 2.0-litre diesels with 150hp (18d) or 211hp (23d).

There are also 245hp and 326hp versions of the 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid available, with a better electric range of up to 50 miles.

Used BMW X1 Sport features and equipment

This well-equipped trim level comes with plenty of kit to make driving more comfortable, such as all-around parking sensors, a powered boot lid, cruise control and dual-zone climate control.

They also come with the highly acclaimed iDrive system, which comprises a dashboard-mounted touchscreen and a rotary controller on the centre console. It runs Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Third-generation models come with equally impressive equipment, but they benefit from the company’s latest iDrive operating system and a high-tech dual-screen system – one for the digital instrument cluster and another for the infotainment system, but both seemingly blending into one another.

Where the X1 Sport sits in the BMW range

Sport has always been a middling trim level for BMW’s cars, which means it’s a step above the basic cars but still reasonably affordable.

Previously, SE models sat at the bottom of the range, but BMW removed these for the third-generation car, so the well-equipped Sport model is now the cheapest you can get.

Generally, M Sport models sit at the top of the range, but in the case of BMW’s SUVs, including the X1, there’s also a rugged-looking xLine trim that sits between Sport and M Sport.
