What is the Audi TT Black Edition?

Black Edition is one of Audi’s highest trim levels and was the highest option in the car’s final years on sale, besides limited edition variants.

A used Audi TT Black Edition benefits from an even sportier makeover than the S line, including black-out detailing for a stealthier look.

Unsurprisingly, this is a popular choice, but there have been Black Edition variants of the Audi TT since the second generation, so you can pick one of those for a more budget-friendly choice or go for our favourite – the third-generation model.

What are the Audi TT Black Edition specs?

Most buyers tend to go for petrol power in this compact sports model, and the 2.0-litre engines in the 40 TFSI and 45 TFSI are strong choices. They have 197hp and 245hp, respectively.

Previously, there were also 180hp 1.8-litre and 230hp 2.0-litre petrol options, which are generally more affordable to buy but no less fun.

Audi stopped selling diesel variants years before the car was discontinued, but if you do long-distance driving, then the 184hp 2.0-litre engine is a very efficient option.

Used Audi TT Black Edition features and equipment

Second-hand TT Black Edition models are best recognised by their black styling pack, tinted windows and black door mirrors. They also come with large 19-inch alloy wheels.

Interior kit includes an upgraded Bang & Olufsen sound system, lowered suspension, LED headlights, and seats trimmed in Alcantara and leather.

To keep a minimalist design and shift the driver’s focus to the road in true sports car style, the Audi TT doesn’t have a conventional infotainment system.

Instead, it has a multifunction digital display behind the steering wheel. Its climate controls are also hidden away in the centre of the air vents to keep the dashboard free of clutter.

Where the TT Black Edition sits in the Audi range

Black Edition is a top-spec version of the TT, but it shares most of its parts and design with the very popular and more affordable S line.

Being a sports car, Sport is the most basic version you can get, so there are no entry-level SE or Technik models as you’d expect with other Audi models.

For a period, Audi also sold very premium Vorsprung editions, which are worth a look if you’re already considering a Black Edition. There are also TTS and TT RS performance models.
