Aston Martins are some of the most high-end and prestigious cars to ever come out of the UK. If King Charles has one, then that’s a good enough reason to call them ‘royalty for the road’. 

The main reason you’d buy one of these luxurious cars is for the whole experience, from the driving to the interiors – which tend to be festooned in leather, carbon fibre, metals and even wood in some cases.

In terms of tech, you get all the usual bells and whistles you’d expect to find in an expensive car from a large central display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to automatic A/C and remote keyless entry. 

A few decades ago, Aston Martins weren’t known for their reliability. Since Mercedes-Benz purchased a significant portion of the company, however, overall reliability has improved massively. This is down in no small part to the German car manufacturer supplying its engines and certain parts. 

Safety has always been a strong point for the British brand, which is even more impressive considering they were hand-built for many years. No modern Aston Martins – at the time of writing – have been independently tested by Euro NCAP, and likely never will be due to their price and exclusivity.  

But these cars are built to the highest standards with standard safety equipment such as large brakes, stability control and emergency brake assist, along with many airbags and ISOFIX points in some models. 

A big factor to consider when buying a new or used Aston Martin is the running costs. Being luxury cars, they’re expensive from the get-go – prices range anywhere from £20,000 to well into the millions depending on the model you choose.  

Then, on top of that, there are insurance costs, fuelling, road tax and maintenance. This will, of course, vary because a '60s Aston Martin DB4 will obviously be much more expensive to keep than a 2020 DBX, but neither would be as affordable to run as a Ford Fiesta, for example.  

The use case for your Aston Martin will vary depending on the model you go for. If you choose the large DBX SUV then you’ll get a practically family car (albeit a very expensive one). Opt for the DB11, DB12 or DBS and you’ll have the best long-distance cruiser imaginable, with excellent comfort and luxury.  

However, if a cow’s worth of leather isn’t to your liking, then there’s always the sportier Vantage that comes with either a V8 or V12 to suit your driving thrills.
