What eight-seater cars are there?

With a seven-seater, fitting two seats in the boot is relatively easy, but eight-seaters need three seats in the final row, which means you’re almost always limited to a van shape.

Not to worry, though, because while the outsides of eight-seaters may resemble vans, car manufacturers do a lot of work to make them feel more ‘normal’ inside, fitting them with comfortable upholstery and large touchscreen infotainment systems.

Eight-seater car options are considerably more limited – if you’re looking at more modern options that might be ULEZ-exempt and cheaper to run, you’re presented with just one option, the Land Rover Defender 130.

In Land Rover speak, ‘130’ signifies the longest Defender available, and the only one with eight seats, so don’t go for a ‘90’ or ‘110’ if you need the extra seats in the back.
