Staycation 2022: UK driving hols to beat the passport delays

Passport not due in time for your summer holiday? With cars and destinations like these, there's no need to leave the UK...

article hero

UK passport delays have put a million summer holidays in doubt as Brits may be forced to postpone their trips abroad. Sad face. The cause for the huge delay is due to over five million people delaying their passport applications during the pandemic, meaning there’s been a surge of applicants for new passports. But rather than facing the prospect of a late passport or airport queues, there are other ways to reach picturesque locations this summer. Staycation 2022, here we come...

So, if you're feeling glum about not going abroad for another year, let cinch's UK holiday guide perk you up before summer. We've thrown in some car suggestions, too. We're nice like that.

City breaks

If you’re looking for a city break this summer or keen on visiting a handful of urban hotspots, the Vauxhall Corsa-e is a perfect choice for the occasion. This electric car can, according to its maker, do 222 miles between charges, so you should be able to reach most key spots before needing a top-up. If you find yourself coming up short, a fast charger can get you from about 10 to 80% in about 30 minutes. Enough time for a quick coffee and ice cream stop.

The Corsa-e is nippy enough for urban roads, as it does 0-60mph in just 7.6 seconds, while 132hp is more than enough oomph for drives on the motorway. It certainly doesn't hang about - nor do any of electric cars, actually. Find them in our online-showroom here. And find our favourite city breaks below...

Seaside escapes

If you want to chill at the beach this year and sit on a deck chair - or even fancy a paddle, we're certainly not short of beautiful coastlines in the UK. There’s plenty of sandy shores for you to sink your feet into.

We know the hassle of driving back after a day at the beach, sand gets everywhere. But thankfully, the Ford Puma has a solution to this slight nuisance. This SUV is perfect for family getaways – it’s a comfortable cruiser, fun to drive and has decent space for passengers. But the big benefit is the secret compartment in the floor of the boot. The covered storage area has a rubber lining and a plug hole. Meaning you can wash it out with ease after you dumped in sandy towels, toys and damp swimwear. Genius.

·    West Wittering, Chichester

·    Porthcurno, Cornwall

·    Holkham Beach, Norfolk

·    Blackpool Sands, South Devon

·    Whitby Sands, North Yorkshire
