Mazda MX-5 Miata
A symphony of curves, the 2025 edition of the Mazda MX-5 is sleek, compact and beautiful.
Featuring Mazda’s signature peppy performance and subtle handling – all at a great price, especially if you pick up a used example.
2025 marks the 35th anniversary of the MX-5, and Mazda is celebrating with new colour and interior options, but the core remains the same as 2024.
Boot space (130 litres) is plenty for a couple of soft weekend bags, but no one buys this car for a camping trip with the kids anyway.
Exclusively petrol-powered, it returns a healthy 43mpg and it’s as comfy around town as it is on sweeping B-roads.
MINI Cooper Convertible
Glossy, stylish and great fun to drive, MINI’s 4th generation convertible for 2025 has a new name: the MINI Cooper Convertible.
The packaging is a subtle upgrade on the MINI Convertible, For example, the new circular OLED touchscreen adds a real premium feel.
Also new are circular LED headlights, an updated front grille and a well-designed wind deflector to reduce wind noise when you lower the roof.
Available with a petrol engine and seven-speed automatic gearbox combo only, there’s the Cooper C, Cooper S and, at the top of the range, the John Cooper Works. Luggage space is about what you’d expect for a convertible hatchback at 160 litres, but it does come with four seats, and the rear ones will be fine for kids or small adults.
Fiat 500e Convertible
With its retro design and nimble handling, the Fiat 500e Convertible is an enjoyable electric car that comes into its own in sunny cities. With a fabric roof that extends beyond the rear windows, it’s not a full convertible, but it does offer the wind-in-your-hair experience without sacrificing practicality.
All models come with keyless entry, a big infotainment screen with wireless smartphone connectivity and a premium sound system.
Seating in the front is comfortable, but rear seat space is tight and best used by kids or small adults. Boot space is 185 litres, ideal for one small suitcase.
Its 185-mile claimed range isn’t world-beating but should suit you perfectly for around town and any country drives closer to home
Prices for the Fiat 500e Convertible start at around £30,000, making deals for a used electric Fiat 500 Cabrio or petrol-powered Fiat 500c seem even sweeter.
Audi TT Roadster
Beautiful inside and out, the Audi TT Roadster is premium, great fun to drive and offers healthy fuel economy of around 38mpg. What’s not to love?
Inside, newer models get all the tech you’d need with a virtual cockpit and infotainment system that connects with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Being Audi, safety is paramount, and advanced safety features include adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning.
Take your pick from petrol and diesel engines, manual or ‘S tronic’ automatic gearboxes, front- or all-wheel drive and up to 395hp in the all-singing, all-dancing TT RS version.
Audi might not sell the TT new anymore, but we’ve got used Audi TTs – coupé and convertible –available for as little as £13,000.
Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet
With its distinctive styling elements, the VW T-Roc Cabriolet has a funky, ‘80s look, with a soft top that goes down in just nine seconds.
Combining the practicality of an SUV with a convertible roof means comfortable seating for front and rear passengers, a decent-sized boot (284 litres) and the wind in your hair.
Inside, eight-inch digital dials and central touchscreens come as standard, increasing to 10.25 inches and 9.2 inches respectively in the higher trims.
The T-Roc Cabriolet comes with two petrol engines: a 110hp 1.0-litre three-cylinder, or a 150hp 1.5-liter four-cylinder. The latter is available with automatic or manual transmission.
A brand-new T-Roc Cabriolet costs upwards of £35,000. But you can spend a lot less than that by buying a used Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet at cinch.
Abarth 124 Spider
A small, feisty sports car with plenty of character, the Abarth 124 Spider comes with a 170hp, 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a booming exhaust.
Based on the great fun Fiat 124, it has the same simple dashboard design, while its smooth gearbox, responsive steering and comfortable seats make it a great drive on short city streets or longer motorway drives.
Inside, it feels sporty, with a red rev counter, red stitching and alloy pedals. The infotainment system doesn’t come with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto compatibility, but it’s a small price to pay for a car this fun.
Capable of 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 144mph, it’s light, nimble and still gets a claimed 44mpg.
If you’re looking for a sporty number that catches people’s attention, the Abarth 124 Spider could be the one for you.
BMW Z4 M Sport
Eye-catching and powerful, the BMW Z4 M Sport has plenty of oomph, going from 0-62mph in just 5 seconds.
While its limited top speed is 155mph, it packs a punch with 338 hp in the latest model, and its smooth suspension offers a controlled ride, even on bumpy roads.
Yes, it’s a two-seater, but it does offer a good amount of interior and boot space (281 litres) and is a surprisingly fuel-efficient sports car, offering just shy of 40mpg.
With one of the best infotainment systems out there, the BMW Z4 M Sport is a fun and entertaining drive that’s sure to make you smile as you cruise down country lanes.
Porsche 718 Boxster
There aren’t many cars that can keep up with the Porsche 718 Boxster – and it’s wonderful to drive.
With brand new prices starting upwards of £55,000, it’s not cheap, but the standard is high. And it makes a used example even more tempting.
The Porsche 718 Boxster is a compact, serious sports car. Even the entry level model comes with 300hp and a 2.0-litre engine, while the range-topping GTS has a 400hp six-cylinder.
Seats are spacious and supportive, with plenty of adjustment. And thanks to its mid-engine layout, it also comes with two ‘boots’: a 150-litre ‘froot’ (front boot) and a smaller 125-litre load bay at the back.
Available as a petrol only, there’s a choice of automatic and manual transmissions.
Even better, you can save yourself thousands of pounds by buying a used Porsche on cinch.
