Looking for the best BYD? There a relatively fresh brand on the scene that's gaining popularity.
Chinese-owned BYD (Build Your Dreams) specialise in making electric cars.
While it may be globally renowned, BYD was only recently launched in the UK.
Still, with many of its models achieving a five-star Euro NCAP rating and having next-level battery technology, it’s definitely one to watch.
Finding the best BYD car isn’t as straightforward as picking the first one you see because each car comes with its own perks, differences, and features.
That’s why it’s a good idea to delve into the BYD range and work out which one is best for you.

BYD Dolphin SURF
Kicking things off is the smallest car BYD sells in the UK. It’s called the Dolphin SURF (yes, there’s a serious aquatic theme here) but don’t let its cute looks deceive you because it means business.
With a range up to 199 miles and rapid charging speeds of just 22 minutes to get from 30-80% charge, this small car is a cut above most of its rivals.
Despite being the cheapest car in the range, the Dolphin SURF still gets BYD’s signature rotating infotainment screen (albeit smaller at 10.1 inches), which controls everything and comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

BYD Dolphin
If you’re considering an MG4 but want to see what else is out there, may we introduce the BYD Dolphin?
This versatile electric hatchback gets up to 265 miles of range and up to 201hp, which is plenty for a peppy city car.
It also has a large boot for its size at 345 litres, growing to 1,310 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
I drove the Dolphin for myself and rated the comfortable drive and techy interior - including the large rotating middle screen.

BYD ATTO 3
Small cars are great, but some of us need a little more space, which is where the BYD ATTO 3 steps in.
It gets a respectable 260 miles of range as well as a roomy cabin, offering plenty of space for up to five people.
And thanks to its size, BYD gives it the full-size 15.6-inch rotating central screen, which is crisp and intuitive to use.

BYD SEAL
If you’re still after that family car vibe but want something sleeker and sportier, a BYD SEAL may be a good option for you.
What we love about the SEAL is its luxurious feel on the inside, combined with raw performance on the outside. With up to 523hp, it can propel itself from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds, as denoted on its badge at the back.
Thanks to its 82.5kWh battery, you get up to 354 miles of range on a single charge, with 150kW rapid charging capabilities when you need it.
When I drove the SEAL Excellence, I particularly liked the performance edge that pairs well with the comfortable drive.

BYD SEAL U DM-i
Sometimes electric cars aren’t for everyone. We get it, which is why a plug-in hybrid SUV can be the best pick for families.
With up to 699 miles of combined range between the petrol engine and electric motor, the BYD SEAL U DM-i is a fine choice for longer distances.
Not only that, but when you get to a city, you can switch into electric-only mode and enjoy up to 78 miles of engine-free driving.
Ben Welham, our motoring journalist, tested the SEAL U DM-i for himself and said: "For most people, the BYD SEAL U’s 426-litre boot is more than enough, but it’s not as deep as some other SUVs because of the under-floor batteries for the hybrid system.
"We packed the boot with bags, did a tip run and even had a big Bernese Mountain Dog in the boot and the SEAL U never ran out of space."
)
BYD SEALION 7
The final ocean-themed animal to mention is the BYD SEALION 7 – an electric family SUV that looks the part and acts the part.
With an impressive 520-litre boot, 312 miles of range and 230kW rapid charging speeds, it’s hard to ignore.
Plus, its ride is one of the best we’ve experienced in an electric car of its size, so it’ll handle brilliantly on the UK’s rougher roads.
This is another one that Ben tested, and he gave it an impressive four star rating.
He said: "The SEALION 7, a sporty coupé-like SUV, is another feather for BYD’s impressive cap.
"It offers loads of interior space, solid range and performance, and despite its aquatic name, is very good on land."
