What is the Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance?

Just a few years after Volkswagen replaced the Beetle with the Golf, a fast GTI version was introduced with 110hp and a 0-62mph time of 10 seconds.

The 1975 was so popular that every version of the Golf since has had a GTI variant, each with increasingly more power.

GTI Performance adds even more thrill to an already fun used Volkswagen Golf GTI.

What are the Volkswagen Golf GTI specs?

Seventh-generation used Golf GTI Performance models come with 15hp more than the regular GTI models, meaning that they produce the same 245hp that eight-generation models do.

According to Volkswagen, the Golf GTI Performance will do 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds, which is the same as an eight-generation Golf GTI with the same power, making this used GTI Performance look even better value.

Despite its power and its 155mph top speed, you could nearly see 40mpg from the engine, and it sits in a reasonably modest car tax bracket.

GTI Performance models are recognised by their red GTI badging and larger brake discs. The only other difference over regular GTI models is they get a mechanical limited-slip diff.

Moreover, all GTI models come with large 18-inch alloys, LED headlights, lowered sports suspension, and plenty of red details on the interior.

A used Golf GTI Performance also comes with dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, parking sensors, and a reversing camera.

Where the Golf GTI Performance sits in the Volkswagen range

GTI Performance is a more extreme version of the Golf GTI, but it’s not as extreme as higher-spec GTI TCR models or the 300hp Golf R. It sits above the diesel-powered GTD and the plug-in hybrid GTE and GTE Advance.

At the top of the regular Golf range are GT models, which the performance cars are based on, and sporty-looking R-Line variants.

Starting from the bottom up, there are also S, SE, SE Navigation and Match cars, which can be far more affordable.
