What is the Volkswagen Golf GT Edition?

As well as several core trim levels, including Match, GT and R-Line, Volkswagen also sold ‘Edition’ versions of them, offering even more equipment for not much more money.

The GT Edition sits near the top of the Volkswagen Golf range, offering considerably more equipment than entry-level models but without the high cost of R-Line and performance cars.

What are the Volkswagen Golf GT Edition specs?

The Volkswagen Golf GT Edition gets access to almost all of the engines you can get in a Golf, with the exception of the performance GTI and R options.

We like the 150hp engines because they offer good performance without impacting fuel economy too much, and they’re also available with optional automatic gearboxes. Power comes from a 1.5-litre petrol or a 2.0-litre diesel engine.

You can also get a lesser-powered 130hp 1.5-litre petrol and a 115hp 1.6-litre diesel. The only mainstream engine you don’t get in a GT Edition is the 115hp 1.0-litre petrol, which is available lower down the range.

A used Volkswagen Golf GT Edition comes with all the staples, like automatic lights and wipers, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors and a drive mode selector.

The GT Edition also gets an upgraded touchscreen infotainment system that works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Because this is a slightly sporty model, you also get unique alloy wheels and a firmer suspension setup, plus LED fog lights that come on individually depending on which way you turn the wheel to help light up the road.

Trim levels for the Volkswagen Golf have changed over the years, but the GT Edition refers to the previous-generation Mk7 model.

Entry-level S cars, which are surprisingly good value, sit below Match and Match Edition cars. There are also GT and GT Edition options.
