What types of used Toyota Prius cars are there?

The Toyota Prius pretty much started the hybrid trend when it launched back in 1997. It’s a bit of a pioneer and will guarantee a tried-and-tested hybrid hero.   

Over the years, the Prius has seen many upgrades and improvements, with newer models offering plenty of safety, reliability and interior technology.   

Its main competitors are the Honda Insight, Hyundai IONIQ and Kia Niro – all of which offer great value for money, but we think the Prius is just that bit better when it comes to real-world efficiency and usability.

There are a few Prius models to pick from, including the Prius Active that offers keyless go, adaptive cruise control, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the latest models.

Toyota Prius history 

Although it can trace its roots back to 1997, not all early models were sold outside of Toyota’s home country of Japan. Second-generation models sold from 2003 to 2009 really saw the hybrid car gain mainstream attention.

What features does the Toyota Prius have?

Inside, every Toyota Prius hybrid for sale offers quirky styling that features a techy digital gauge cluster and a large central dashboard display.   

Toyota’s Touch 2 infotainment system works well and is very easy to use, but you can always just hook your smartphone up to the system instead, using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Top-spec models feature equipment such as leather seats, an upgraded JBL sound system, rain-sensing wipers, sat-nav and internet connectivity.   

All Prius models offer 343 litres of boot space as standard, expanding to 1,400 litres when the rear seats are folded flat.   

However, it's also worth remembering that the Prius Plug-in hybrid offers less – 191 litres – because of the extra space the larger battery pack and charging cables take up.
