What types of used Renault Koleos cars are there?

Despite the Koleos’s rather rude Latin translation, this large family SUV is one of the best Range Rover-beaters on the market. 

It can be had in two different trims: Iconic and GT Line – both of which are very well-equipped. 

What features does the Renault Koleos have?

You can have your Koleos in a range of trims levels, all of which come well-equipped with interior tech and style. 

The base Iconic trim gets you a partial leather interior trim, alloy wheels, parking sensors, front fog lights and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. 

Move up to the top-of-the-range GT Line trim and you’ll get a full leather interior, alloy wheels, heated seats, heated mirrors and more.  

All models come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities too, which means you can use your own maps and play your own music through its 8.7-inch portrait display via your smartphone. 

Aside from this, one of the main reasons you’ll want to choose the Koleos is because of its boot. Even with all five seats upright, you get 565 litres of boot space, which is more than enough for most families.  

Flatten the rear seats and you get an astonishing 1,795 litres, which is handy if you’re visiting IKEA or have lots of sports equipment. 

Is the Renault Koleos reliable?

Renault is a pretty reliable car brand, having been consistent over the past few years. One of its most popular SUVs, the Koleos reflects this. 

Every Renault car is covered by a warranty package for up to three years from the date it was registered, with unlimited mileage during the first 24 months. 

This is then limited to a total of 60,000 miles (100,00 miles for 100% electric vehicles) or three years – whichever comes first. It’s also transferred to future owners, which makes a used example even more appealing. 

Following its most recent Euro NCAP crash test, the Koleos scored a full five stars, offering excellent protection to both adult and child occupants. 

This is thanks to safety features such as automatic emergency braking (AEB), speed assistance, lane assist system, rear ISOFIX child seat mounts and plenty of airbags. 

How much does the Renault Koleos cost to run?

Unlike many of its rivals, Renault has decided not to offer the Koleos with a petrol or hybrid engine, and instead with two diesels: a 130hp 1.6-litre, or a 177hp 2.0-litre. 

The former is best for most people because it’s powerful enough for everyday driving, plus you’ll get around 55mpg. 

The larger and more powerful one comes as standard with four-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox that makes it very capable off-road and brilliant on those long motorway journeys. 

With fuel economy being so impressive, you’d hope that insurance is reasonable too – and it is. Sitting between insurance groups 18 and 23, the Koleos should be affordable to insure.  

It’s worth bearing in mind, however, that insurance costs vary depending on the driver, their history and many other factors. 

Maintenance costs should be fairly low too because the Koleos is a car that came out in 2008 and ended production in 2020 for ‘commercial reasons’. 

Who is the Renault Koleos suitable for?

A used Renault Koleos is ideal for large families who need the added practicality of the large boot and five seats.  

It’s also less imposing than offerings like a used Land Rover or used Audi, so you’ll appear like a more approachable person in the car park.  

But if that’s not important to you, at least you’ll look like the smarter one who spent a fraction of the cost on a car just as large.
