Yes, early data suggest the JAECOO 7 is as reliable as any other modern car thanks to quality engineering and backing from parent company Chery, which is one of China’s biggest car manufacturers.

With a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty, it’s also got some of the best coverage in the business at more than twice as long as the industry standard.

How much does the JAECOO 7 cost to run?

With the JAECOO 7, you’ve got a choice of powertrains depending on whether you want a low purchase price or lower running costs.

Starting with the petrol model, you can expect 35-37mpg depending on whether you go for front- or four-wheel drive.

The plug-in hybrid (re-badged SHS-P) is the cheapest to run if you have access to a home charger. It’s got a 56-mile electric-only range, but even with a dead battery you’ll probably be close to 50mpg.

A newer self-charging hybrid, badged SHS-H, claims 53mpg on paper, and we think that’s a pretty realistic bet having driven the same engine in other models.
