What is the Ford Focus ST-2?

ST – or Sports Technologies – is the name given to Ford’s most powerful models, and the Focus ST has been around for nearly as long as the regular Focus has.

In this case, ST-2 refers to a specific trim level for the fast Ford, so you’ll get slightly more kit than the cheaper ST-1 without having to pay the premium of an ST-3.

What are the Ford Focus ST-2 specs?

ST-2 models are no longer available new, as Ford stopped selling them when it phased out the third-generation Focus, so you’ll need to look at previous models to get a used Ford Focus ST-2.

The most common engine was the 250hp 2.0-litre petrol, which does 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds with a manual gearbox.

There’s also a 2.0-litre diesel with 185hp, which Ford reckons will do around 50mpg. The manual model does 0-62mph in 8.3 seconds, but the dual-clutch automatic takes this down to 7.8 seconds.

Used Ford Focus ST-2 features and equipment

Don’t be put off by the fact that this is a previous-generation model because you still get a lot of car tech, including that all-important touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

You also get a heated windscreen, which makes de-icing in the winter less of a chore, as well as dual-zone climate control, cruise control and Recaro sports seats in the front.

Other equipment includes parking sensors, fog lights, automatic lights and automatic wipers, but precise kit lists vary by model year.

Where the Focus ST-2 sits in the Ford range

ST-2 was the entry-level version of the third-generation Focus ST in its later years, sitting one step below the ST-3. Slightly older models also had a lower-spec ST-1 version available.

Newer fourth-generation models are just called Focus ST. All versions of the Ford Focus ST inspire the design of the more affordable ST-Line (Edition), ST-Line X (Edition) and ST-Line Vignale models, which come with more efficient engines.

Other trims include the premium-feeling Titanium (Edition), Titanium X (Edition) and Titanium Vignale, and the rugged-looking Active (Edition), Active X (Edition) and Active Vignale (Edition). Lower-spec models include Zetec, Trend, and Style.
