What is the Ford EcoSport Active?

Active is a fairly new trim level for Ford, though it has been around for some years now, including on other popular models in the range like the Fiesta and Focus.

A Ford EcoSport Active uses clever styling cues to give it a more rugged look, but it’s still an efficient front-wheel-drive model that uses Ford’s best EcoBoost engine.

Sharing many mechanical parts with the Fiesta, although this crossover looks bigger, it’s still a very manageable car to drive around town, where its raised ride height gives the driver greater visibility.

What are the Ford EcoSport Active specs?

There’s only one engine option for the Ford EcoSport in Active trim, and it’s a 125hp version of the incredibly popular and highly acclaimed 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine.

Some models, like the ST-Line, also get a more powerful 140hp variant of the same engine, but that’s not an option for the EcoSport Active.

You’ll also be limited to a manual gearbox, but that’s no bad thing because Ford’s manual shifter is easy to use and suits this engine very well.

Used Ford EcoSport Active features and equipment

Most of the differences of an Active model are in the styling, such as tinted windows and a black bodystyling kit, which includes a black roof and two-tone alloy wheels.

Depending on model year, you also get LED headlights, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, cruise control, and an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

There’s no Active X model (which is the case with some other Ford cars), but the X-Pack, sold as an optional extra and one worth looking for, adds keyless entry and start, power-folding mirrors, and an upgraded B&O sound system.

Where the EcoSport Active sits in the Ford range

When the Active model was on sale, the EcoSport range was fairly slim because you could only get mid-spec models.

Titanium had become the entry-level option, which is a well-equipped model in itself. There were sporty-looking ST-Line and rugged-looking Active trims, and that was it.

Previously, entry-level Zetec and slightly upgraded Titanium X cars were available, and an ST-Line Design model was later added.
