DS 3 Crossback
Use our Help Me Choose tool to go from 1000s of cars to just a handful of recommendations — and cinch your search.
Start nowAlthough the DS 3 was initially a stylish supermini-sized hatchback, it was rebranded as the Crossback in 2019 when it became a compact crossover.
The DS 3 Crossback is a head-turning model with excellent exterior style and an intriguing cabin, which is made up of high-quality and soft-touch materials.
Although DS is a sister company of Citroen, it’s designed to take on more premium offerings at a reasonably low price point.
Newer models come with petrol power, but there are older diesels on the used market too. Look for a model badged ‘E-Tense’ if you want electric power – newer models also benefit from slightly more power and a few extra miles of range.
Popular DS 3 Crossback trims
DS has changed its trim levels a few times, making it hard to keep track of what’s what. Fortunately, every DS 3 Crossback is well-equipped.
> DS 3 Crossback Prestige - Posh model with parking sensors and plenty of car tech
> DS 3 Crossback Performance Line - Sporty-looking car with more kit and enhanced style
> DS 3 Crossback Opera - Newer range-topped with lots of technology and luxurious leather seats

DS 3 Crossback history
The DS 3 Crossback came about in 2019, with a few updates here and there to keep it in check.
> First-generation DS 3 Crossback (2019) - Style-conscious and premium crossover
> Facelifted DS 3 Crossback (2022) - Launched during Paris Fashion Week with some styling and kit changes
Inside, the DS 3 Crossback is a very pleasant place to be. All models are comfortable and use soft-touch materials, but some higher-spec models have watchstrap-inspired soft leather upholstery.
Standard equipment on the entry-level model includes air-conditioning and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Other options available on higher trims include LED headlights, a reversing camera, keyless entry, and a larger 10-inch infotainment display.
Because it sits under the same umbrella as a number of other brands, DS models should offer good levels of reliability – especially since the DS 3 Crossback shares many of its parts with other Citroen, Peugeot and Vauxhall models.
Though the diesels do offer good fuel economy, the 1.2-litre petrol model is so good (and surprisingly punchy) that’s it suits most drivers. You can also pick from an electric model if you have access to a charging point, which could slash the cost of motoring for you.
Crossovers have a lot of appeal because they’re practical without hampering fuel economy too much, and a used DS 3 Crossback for sale makes for a compelling option for anyone with a keen eye for style.
Other premium yet affordable models include the Volkswagen T-Roc and MINI Countryman.
Higher-spec models come as standard with a built-in 3D navigation system with the option to connect your smartphone using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
We would suggest the petrol variants for everyday around town use, the diesel for longer motorway journeys, and the all-electric variant for those wanting to try out the EV life or who have a similar use case to the petrol engine users.
Technically, the DS3 Crossback is an SUV, but its official nerdy term is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV.
Citroen launched DS to take on premium German car brands, and has succeeded in many ways.
