Most of Dacia’s SUV-style cars are on the compact side, but the new Bigster does what it says on the tin – it’s a new, bigger SUV that still has that all-important low price tag.

Dacia’s most popular SUV is the Duster, which has now seen three different generations. Entry-level cars offer true value for money if you need a functional SUV, but stretch to a top-spec trim level for less than you might think and you can get things like a 360-degree parking camera, heated seats and more.

Only this and the Bigster have four-wheel drive (on some trim levels), but if it’s just the rugged looks you’re after, why not get a Stepway version of the Sandero hatchback or Logan MCV estate?

Thankfully, there are plenty of used Dacia SUVs with conventional petrol and diesel engines and your choice of front- or four-wheel drive, putting you in control.

What does a Dacia Duster do to the gallon?

Diesel engines have been phased out (but you can still buy a used Dacia SUV with a diesel engine), so you’ll be looking at petrol versions for newer cars.

Dacia claims they’ll do over 40mpg, but keep an eye out for Bi-Fuel models which can also run on LPG. It’s not quite as efficient, but it’s considerably cheaper to buy per litre than petrol, making it cheaper to run.
