What is the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé M Sport?

Designed to offer a sportier alternative to the popular 3 Series saloon, a BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé M Sport is a stretched-out coupé with a pair of rear doors and a practical hatchback-style boot opening.

A used BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé M Sport combines this practicality with the style of BMW’s performance M4 models, but without their associated high running costs.

There have only been two generations of the 4 Series Gran Coupé, but M Sport has been a staple for the car’s entire time on sale, so you’ll find current- and previous-generation models at a range of price points.

What are the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé M Sport specs?

Being a sportier alternative to the brand’s regular saloons, the 4 Series Gran Coupé M Sport is only available with some of the company’s more powerful engines, but they’re still incredibly efficient.

The most popular are the 2.0-litre engines, which come with 150hp (418d) or 190hp (420d) in diesel form, and 184hp (420i) or 252hp (430i) in petrol form.

A few 3.0-litre engines have also been available, including the 258hp 430d and 313hp 435d diesel models, and the 306hp 435i and 326hp 440i petrol models.

Used BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé M Sport features and equipment

Standard kit varies because there have been two generations and multiple updates for the 4 Series Gran Coupé.

As a guide, the latest models come with LED headlights, a powered boot lid, all-around parking sensors with a reversing camera and cruise control. A facelift in 2022 also saw the interior upgraded, with a new digital instrument cluster and infotainment system running the latest version of iDrive.

For reference, previous-generation models come with things like heated seats, dual-zone climate control and sat-nav.

Where the 4 Series Gran Coupé M Sport sits in the BMW range

M Sport is the highest trim level you can get on the regular 4 Series Gran Coupé, with the exception of the M Sport Pro Edition.

There are also lower-spec Sport versions, and an entry-level SE model, but they’re generally less desirable and therefore less popular.

Some of the 3.0-litre engines have also been shifted in recent years so that they now have their own names, such as the M440i and M440d. They’re higher in the range than the M Sport, but are largely similar in terms of kit.
