What is the BMW 2 Series M240i?

BMW uses the M badge to denote its most powerful models, and the range-topping version for the 2 Series is the seriously quick M2.

It can be an expensive car to buy, which is where the M240i comes in because it offers a lot of performance for a considerably cheaper purchase price.

There are M240i variants of the 2 Series belonging to both the first-generation F22 and second-generation G42 models, so there’ll be a car to suit most budgets.

What are the BMW 2 Series M240i specs?

The M240i is only available with one engine option, and it’s a powerful 3.0-litre straight-six petrol, but power output depends on which generation you pick.

Newer cars have 374hp and 500Nm of torque, plus standard-fit four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox, so they’re good for 0-62mph in a very impressive 4.3 seconds.

Older models are rear-wheel-drive only and have 340hp and 500Nm of torque. There are manual and automatic variants, which do 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds and 4.6 seconds respectively.

Used BMW 2 Series M240i features and equipment

As a guide, the latest models come as standard with dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, electrically adjustable seats, adaptive LED headlights, cruise control, a digital instrument cluster and the latest version of BMW’s infotainment system, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Previous-generation M240i cars came just as loaded with equipment, including similar aggressive styling to the current model.

Keep an eye out for used M240i cars with optional extras, such as keyless entry, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display and a built-in dashcam.

Where the 2 Series M240i sits in the BMW range

M240i is the most powerful version of the 2 Series apart from the much pricier M2 model.

It shares a lot of parts with the desirable M Sport car, which is available with more efficient petrol and diesel engines.

Previously, mid-spec Sport and entry-level SE cars have also been available, but BMW stopped selling these to give the 2 Series a sportier and more premium feel.
